TASTING NOTES: “From the fruit-forward aromas to the lingering flavors, Sonoma Classico blends the characteristics of each grape seamlessly: red fruits with a touch of warm cooking spices; plum, spice, and dark berries with smooth tannins and light toast notes. Rich and velvety, this is a medium-bodied blend with a rounded and lingering finish.” (AbV 14.5%, pH 3.58, TA 0.60 g/100mL)

THAT REMINDS ME OF: The Copacabana, the famed New York nightclub. The setting of many movies and live performances by various artists. Opened in 1940 by Monte Proser, it turned out the real big man behind the scenes was mob boss Frank Castello. Proser was pushed out in 1948 and Castello put a Jules Podell in charge. Podell kept the club going until his death in '73, where it closed for three years, only to reopen as a discotheque. The decades that followed would see it change locations numerous times, including a stint at Times Square, and it remains open today on West 51st Street.
