About Peterson Winery
For 30 years, Fred Peterson, and eventually his son Jamie, have been producing wine in Dry Creek Valley. With an old-world winemaking philosophy and strong desire to farm sustainably, the Petersons utilize “Zero Manipulation” techniques, with minimal tech and maximum care. Don’t take maximum care to mean intense care, though, as Zero Manipulation favors simultaneously the most gentle and traditional practices possible so that the flavors, aromatics and texture are natural and true to their roots.

TASTING NOTES:
2012 - “This mountain-grown Syrah offers deep, rich aromatics of dark plum, coffee and huckleberry fused with traces of cedar. An opulent entry and plush mouthfeel find balance with the buoyant acidity. Layered among the supple tannins and seamlessly integrated oak, enjoy flavors of Santa Rosa plum, blackberry, brown spices, and espresso, along with hints of blueberry, mocha and leather. As the wine lingers in the finish, white floral notes appear.” (AbV 13.4%, pH 3.72, TA 0.64 g/100mL)

2013 - “Intense aromas fill the nose with the essence of minerals and preserved cherries. The smooth palate presents elegant layers of minerality that weave through subtle cherry and raspberry, wild violets, leather and espresso, along with just a hint of licorice. This complex, perfectly aged wine showcases the beauty and longevity of our mountain-grown Syrah.” (AbV 13.5%, pH 3.77, TA 0.68 g/100mL)

TANGENTIALLY RELATED FACT to help you make conversation over this wine:
Gravity flow, in terms of geology and geoscience, refers to how gravity acting on sediment in water causes fluids to move downslope. Well, actually, this is in reference to particulate subaqueous gravity flows specifically. See, there appear to be various classifications of gravity flow that don’t even need to be subaqueous AKA underwater. But I’m talking about the subaqueous ones. If they are intense enough, they can basically be underwater landslides. Then it gets into words like thermohaline-induced and contourites and geomorphology and that’s too much for my brain this evening.

PAIRS WITH (winery recommended):
Pair the 2012 with rib eye steak with creamy peppercorn sauce, or juicy lamb chops. The 2013 would do well with a rack of lamb with a crust of garlic, rosemary and butter, or a venison tenderloin with juniper berry and sour cherry sauce and mashed butternut squash.
