About Rocca delle Macìe: “Rocca delle Macìe was established in 1973 when former Boxer and Movie director Italo Zingarelli decided to realize his lifelong dream by acquiring the ‘Le Macìe’ estate (extending across 93 hectares (230 acres) in all, of which only two were under vine) in order to create a winery in the heart of the Chianti Classico zone. Rocca delle Macìe implements agronomic techniques that are geared not only towards constantly improving the products but also towards respecting the environment.”

TASTING NOTES: “Ruby red with garnet reflections Rich and persistent, with a balanced amount of oak from the barrel aging A well balanced wine, dry and refined, with good structure and a long finish.”

“After a strict selection of Sangiovese grapes from the ‘Pian Della Casina’ vineyard and careful fermentation, the wine ages for at least two years in the Zingarelli family cellars. This is a well-structured, balanced and polished wine, offering up hints of red berries and jam.” (AbV 14.55%, pH 3.7, TA 5.30 g/L, RS 1.65 g/L)

THAT REMINDS ME OF: The Rocketeer.

Created by comic artist/writer Dave Stevens, the Rocketeer is Cliff Secord, a 1930’s stunt pilot who acquires an experimental jetpack by chance. With it, and aided by its inventor, he foils Nazi attempts to steal the invention.

While highly-praised and a strong-enough IP to get a Disney film out of it in the 90’s, the publication history of The Rocketeer was pretty wild. Episodes of the story, as it wasn’t originally published in standalone issues, were first run by Pacific Comics from 1982 to 1984. Pacific went under before the last installment could be released, however, so Eclipse Comics would step in and publish it. Eclipse would also get to release the collection of everything produced so far. Stevens didn’t like working with Eclipse, though, so he went to Comico to start doing new issues. Until 1990, when Comico also went under. Then he was with Dark Horse until 1994, at which point Stevens got tired of publishing The Rocketeer and going through the publisher wringer.
