TASTING NOTES: “This heritage release offers alluring spicy clove and red fruit aromatics with cranberry, rhubarb, plum and red currant on the palate. The initial impression is soft upfront but well supported with good acidity and a polished texture that carries from the mid palate through the finish.” (AbV 14.5%, pH 3.74, TA 0.54%, RS 0.07%)

VARIETALS: Sangiovese 62%, Zinfandel 25%, Petite Sirah 13%.

THAT REMINDS ME OF: LODI RULES.

The caps lock isn’t my own excitement, that’s just how they like to write it. In addition to communicating that, well, Lodi rules, it is a certification of sustainable winegrowing practices given by the Lodi Winegrape Commission. Developed in 2005 out of an existing program by the Commission to educate farmers on maintaining a healthy vineyard ecosystem, it was launched based on the accumulated knowledge of both the farmers and environmental scientists.

Nowadays, despite the Lodi name, it has spread all over the West Coast and even beyond. So if you see a seal on a wine that says “Certified Green” with a “Lodi Rules” or “California Rules” above it, that’s what that is.
