TASTING NOTES:
Shannon Ranch - “This wine has a deep and intense red color with a brushstroke of purple. In the nose: ripe black cherry fruit, impeccably festooned with notes of tobacco, chocolate, and mocha. On the palate: medium bodied, well integrated, fleshy tannins with an interesting combination of sweet and sour cherry fruit.” (AbV 13.5%, pH 3.84, TA 0.65 g/100mL, RS 0.7 g/100mL)

URGENCY - A clear, deep garnet Cabernet. Cherry and blackberry, with savory notes of spice and black pepper on the nose. Starts with black fruit and cherry, followed by flavors of red bell pepper and spice notes of vanilla and clove from aging in oak barrels. (AbV 13.5%)

VARIETALS: Shannon Ranch is 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Syrah, 1% Petite Sirah. URGENCY is 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Syrah, 1% Zinfandel.

BARRELS: Thinking American oak, but could be corrected.

PAIRS WITH: Pair the URGENCY with rich grilled meats, eggplant parmigiana or goat cheeses.

THAT REMINDS ME OF: Emergency. As a word.

How did it come to refer to a crisis? Well, as you would assume, it relates to the words “emerge” and “emergence,” meaning to appear or rise out of. This definition goes all the way back to the Latin root emergere. That doesn’t quite explain how it came to be synonymous with something requiring immediate attention. Or maybe it does?

I don’t know about you, but in my mind, “emerge” doesn’t have a sense of urgency to it. Feels almost gradual. In the past, however, it had a more urgent connotation to it. So an emergency would be something that emerged suddenly. So emergency didn’t change, but perhaps emerge has?
