TASTING NOTES: “This Russian River Valley Chardonnay shows green-gold straw color. The aromas immediately lend a lemon citrus core with tree fruits of pear and crisp apple lined with a ﬂoral note of jasmine. French oak is slight and integrated as a hint of brioche and toast. On the palate there is a focused purity of acidity with minerality and balance. The ﬁnish is refreshing and leaves a lingering round elegant mouth feel.“ (AbV 14.2%)

THAT REMINDS ME OF: Spearmint.

If you can not impale someone with a spearmint, then why call it spearmint in the first place? Well, sometimes people have called the sprout of a plant the spear. It is also known by many other names in the English language: garden mint, common mint, lamb mint, and apparently mackerel mint? I don’t know about that one. Anyway, its abundance is likely a large part of why it has so many names. You can find it growing naturally from Ireland all the way to China, and it’s been introduced to several other continents as well.

People have used spearmint for many things, and it’s been popular with us for millennia at this point. For a long time, it was used as a medicinal herb. People believed it would help with soothing/healing wounds and sores. They might have been on to something, too, given that the component of mint that also gives it its smell, carvone, has been researched for potential antibacterial qualities. Already repels some insects. And, of course, we’ve been using mint in food and drink for ages.
