THAT REMINDS ME OF: Painting by numbers.

It’s a neat little concept. You give someone a picture, take away all the colors so only lines remain, and you label it and a bunch of paint pots with corresponding numbers to fill in the blanks.

Around the end of the 19th century, coloring books started to turn up. It wouldn’t be until 1951 that the first commercial paint-by-number kit was released, by a business known as the Palmer Show Card Paint Company, although someone apparently tried to patent the idea in the 1920’s. Owner Max Klein brought the idea for it to artist Dan Robbins, and Robbins produced drawings that would become the first templates. The idea was a hit, selling millions in a matter of years.
