TASTING NOTES:
Serious Play - “Maraschino cherries, red plum, and a touch of black pepper entice you on the nose. The impressive palate combines red and black fruits with a dusting of cinnamon and clove. This wine would be excellent with a homemade marinara, spaghetti and meatballs. Cellar through 2032.” (AbV 13.7%, pH 3.59, TA 0.57 g/100mL)

Syrah - “While most of our Syrah goes into the Rhone-centric Constant Variable bottling, we occasionally have a harvest that provides us with enough wine to make a varietal bottling, as is the case with this 2021 Syrah, Paso Robles. While previous vintages composed of two complimentary vineyard sites, this vintage comes purely from our estate vineyard in Paso Robles. Complexity is added through whole-cluster inclusion, judicious oak use, and fermentation with a small percentage of Viognier. Aromas of vanilla, nutmeg and a pickup of fennel bulb herbaceousness on the nose of this bottling. There is decent weight to the palate, where rich blackberry, thyme and more fennel flavors align.” (AbV 15.3%, pH 3.57, TA 0.68 g/100mL)

VARIETALS: Syrah is almost 100% Syrah, apparently with some Viognier. Serious Play is Counoise (40%), Cinsaut (21%), Carignan (21%), Syrah (18%).

BARRELS: 24-33 months in neutral oak.

PAIRS WITH: Spaghetti and meatballs!

THAT REMINDS ME OF: MAKE. SOME. NOISE!

Make Some Noise is a “game” show, in the same vein as something like Whose Line Is It Anyway, where players are given prompts they must act out or improvise, and points are awarded to them based ostensibly on the quality of their performance. For round one, they act individually. Round two, they must act in pairs. Round three, all three contestants must act scenes together. The points don’t actually matter, however, and it’s ultimately up to host Sam Reich to decide who deserves the “coveted” Golden Ear trophy at the end.

Originally it was a variant of Reich’s other gameshow, Game Changer, where the rules of the game literally change every episode. After showing up a few times there, Make Some Noise was spun off into its own program, and has been one of Dropout’s most popular offerings.
