TASTING NOTES: “The bouquet of our 2021 Old Vine Cuvee opens with a dazzling array of ripe berries. Aromatics of strawberry, dark cherry, and blackberry sail from the glass. The palate follows in tow, with a wealth of ripe red and black fruits that are all melded together with refreshing acidity and a velvet like texture. It is an excellent vintage that has all of the classic bold fruit you expect from this blend, along with the luscious texture of Lodi.” (AbV 14.2%, pH 3.81, TA 5.6 g/L)

THAT REMINDS ME OF: Koyaanisqatsi, a 1982 art documentary film.

The first part of what would become The Qatsi Trilogy produced by Godfrey Reggio with music by Philip Glass. The title, Koyaanisqatsi, is a Hopi word basically translating to life being chaotic or falling apart. Reggio worked for the Institute of Regional Education, sponsored by the ACLU to campaign against using technology to manipulate people and invade privacy. By about 1975, however, despite moderate success in his campaign, the ACLU withdrew its sponsorship, and Reggio alongside cinematographer Ron Fricke decided to put their final $40,000 toward making a film.

Koyaanisqatsi has no spoken words. It is a montage of time-lapsed footage, slow-motion footage, and existing footage of natural phenomena, technology, and society juxtaposed with each other, emphasizing parallels and contrasts between the three.
