About Diamond Ridge Vineyards
There must always be a Jacob S. Stephens… or at least, that seems to be the mantra of the family behind Diamond Ridge Vineyards in Lake County. Founded by Jacob S. Stephens and his son, Jake II, they focus on top quality grapes with low yield, partially a consequence of the rough soil and elevation of their region. However, they boast that their site allows them to grow fruit comparable and sometimes superior to Napa at a fraction of the cost of land. Currently under Jake III’s supervision, the winery continues to be a success, providing wines of intense fruit, color, minerality, and energy.

Camp Clear Lake

TASTING NOTES:
“Our vineyard on a peninsula jutting into the southeastern corner of Clear Lake is the site of the most remarkable Merlot in the State of California, resembling more a classic Pomerol’s density, depth and masculine tannins, though imparting an unctuous feminine texture. Different Cabernet Sauvignon clones will develop aromas as diverse as grenadine, cassis, raspberry, carob, Asian spice, and tar, with tannins and acidity equally varied. Of these, Clone 15 is the most complete: richest in cassis fruit and most structurally solid. Clone 4 is lighter and is characterized by bright cherry aromatics coupled with firm, broad, approachable tannins. A splash of Cabernet Franc imparts high-pitched white cherry and cinnamon notes and a steely backbone to the structure.” (AbV 14.9%, pH 3.78, TA 7.0 g/L)

Camp Crystal Lake is the primary location of the original Friday the 13th film. Established in 1935, the camp was just a normal summer camp for about 22 years. In 1957, a chef named Pamela Voorhees was hired and brought along her son Jason. While unsupervised, some of the children at the camp played a prank on Jason on the lake. Jason consequently drowned, and the police judged it an accident. A year later, two counselors from the year before are killed under mysterious circumstances. It wouldn’t be until 1979 that the camp reopened, once again to disastrous results.
