About Diamond Ridge Vineyards
There must always be a Jacob S. Stephens… or at least, that seems to be the mantra of the family behind Diamond Ridge Vineyards in Lake County. Founded by Jacob S. Stephens and his son, Jake II, they focus on top quality grapes with low yield, partially a consequence of the rough soil and elevation of their region. However, they boast that their site allows them to grow fruit comparable and sometimes superior to Napa at a fraction of the cost of land. Currently under Jake III’s supervision, the winery continues to be a success, providing wines of intense fruit, color, minerality, and energy.

TASTING NOTES:
2013 Aspects - “Our volcanic soils produce solid, age-worthy tannins and a lively mineral energy to the palate. Persistent sunny rays at the high altitude draw from each varietal block its unique aromatic signature, preserved by the cooling breezes of the adjacent lake. In this wine, we wanted to showcase the complex aromatic elements as a single, complex symphony of fruit with seductive undertones that can only develop with extensive age in neutral oak.” (AbV 14.9%, pH 3.78, TA 7.0 g/L)

Cabernet Sauvignon - “The mouth possesses a rich, generous core of black cherry and a lively mineral finish. Tannin structure, once quite hard, has evolved to a pleasant roundness: velvety on the back palate but still with a firm grip up front, indicating both drinkability and further aging potential of perhaps a decade, but entirely enjoyable right now.“ (AbV 14.5%, pH 3.73)

Petite Sirah - “The wine showed astonishing tannins and some reduction, so we employed micro-oxygenation to refine its tannins while carefully preserving its structure and depth of fruit. After six and a half years in neutral cooperage, a wine of tremendous richness and generosity came together, redolent with lavender and thyme, oozing with blueberry flavors carried by deep, silky tannins and a long, vibrant finish we attribute to our volcanic soils.” (AbV 14.5%, pH 3.82)

2013 Aspects spent 90 months in French oak, 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon spent 82 months in French oak, and 2017 Petite Sirah spent 36 months in French oak.
