TANGENTIALLY RELATED FACT to help you make conversation over this wine:
Diamonds. Pretty well known for being tough or at least hard. They are indeed the hardest natural mineral out there, but not so hard that they can’t be damaged by something. Like another diamond. A “you are your own worst enemy” situation. But they can also be worn down by things you wouldn’t expect would effect something like a freaking diamond. For example, there are phonographs that use a diamond tip on the needle. You might feel concerned that the diamond is going to destroy the vinyl. In truth, the vinyl wears down the diamond over time. Granted, that amount of time is over 1500 hours of use, but it’s still pretty interesting. Another property you can look at when it comes to the durability of diamond is toughness. Diamond is pretty tough, but the alloys we use in engineering are literally 10 times tougher. Additionally, a diamond has a cleavage plane. That isn’t another way to say, ahem, large plots of land, but that there are certain orientations the diamond can be positioned on impact that are more fragile than others. Something that doesn’t hurt the diamond from one angle might fracture it from another.

PAIRS WITH (winery recommended): Steak, barbeque or a sharp, well-aged cheddar.
