TASTING NOTES:
Syrah - “This wine is accentuated by aromas of blackberry and mocha and intensified on the mid-palate with flavors of boysenberry and subtle pepper spice. The smooth finish leaves silky, lingering tannins.” (AbV 15.2%)

Merlot - “This elegant Merlot greets the nose with rich aromas of ripe cherry and violets, followed by a lush mouthfeel with layers of blackberry, currant, and a touch of chocolate. These flavors combine with soft and supple tannins to create a long, silky smooth finish.“ (AbV 14.9%)

VARIETALS: 100% Syrah and Merlot.

BARRELS: 15 - 18 months in French oak, at least 50% new.

THAT REMINDS ME OF: Christmas baubles.

Where did they come from? By Christmas baubles, I mean those thin glass balls we put on trees as ornaments.

Originally, trees were adorned with shaped pastries and fruits. But what if you had something that could really last? Maybe across years? Hans Greiner of Lauscha, Germany began making glass ornaments for trees in the mid-19th century, mostly small figurines imitating the previous perishable decorations. Around 1880, F. W. Woolworth, the most 19th century American businessman’s name I’ve seen in a while, began importing the Lauscha ornaments into the US, and that kicked off the craze here.

The common bauble or bombka we see today are a very thin layer of glass blown and lined with an injection of silver nitrate, making them shiny rather than transparent.
