Tootsie Pop spokesman Mr. Owl first showed up in the 70’s and ever since has been an icon for the candy. What most don’t know or remember, however, is that there were three other animals involved in answering the age old “how many licks” question. There was Mr. Cow, who couldn’t finish without biting. There was Mr. Fox, who, despite being clever (and blind for some reason), tells the kid to see Mr. Turtle. Then Mr. Turtle pretty much says the same thing as everyone else, that he’s never made it without biting. Given how useless the others were in answering the question, it’s no wonder they got dropped until just Mr. Owl was left.
