“Len Brutocao met Martha Bliss while attending the University of California, Berkeley. Martha’s father, Irv, had been farming in Mendocino since 1943. After Len and Martha married, the families joined forces and continued to sell their grapes to well-known Sonoma and Napa wineries for many years before starting to make their own wine in 1980. They selected the Lion of St. Mark as their symbol of family tradition and quality. The heart of that quality is in their land: over 400 acres of vineyards in Hopland and 12.5 acres of Pinot Noir in Anderson Valley.”

TASTING NOTES:
“This best describes our new proprietary red wine blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah, a ‘Torrent’ of aroma and flavor. It starts with cascading aromas of black licorice, blackberry, and espresso. A silky mouthfeel, a deluge of chocolate and coffee lead into an outpouring of plum and tobacco for a long, smooth finish. This is a serious, dry, and well-structured wine with lots of dark-fruit flavors and firm tannins. It has tempting black cherry aromas and black currant flavors, a full-body, and a mouth-filling texture…” (AbV 14.5%, pH 3.49, TA 0.65 g/100mL)

Cao Cao was one of the three central figures of the Three Kingdoms period, a warlord and ruler of the northern region. He fought for control of China with other warlords Liu Bei and Sun Quan. He is seen as a cruel tyrant who also manipulated the Emperor. He is also seen as a charismatic great ruler who made things better. Unclear which is more true. Or maybe they’re both true. He was good at poetry, though. And calligraphy. So he’s got that going for him at least. Pretty dope that he said he shouldn’t be buried with any gold or anything, in a (relatively) simple manner that’s out of the way.
