At Cabana, we ferment in small lots and barrel-age the wine in French oak. Then I used my 30 years of wine-making experience to produce the final blend of our award-winning wines.”

TASTING NOTES: “A beautiful dark ruby color, and wonderful spicy aromas fill the senses. A lovely mid-palate of lush blackberry with hints of mocha. A well-balanced wine with nice oak structure, and smooth as silk finish. A nice sipping wine that will only improve with age.” (AbV 14.5%, pH 3.8, TA 0.61 g/100mL)

So late last year there was that whole debacle where people started making fake verified Twitter accounts for various brands and celebrities. Before Twitter’s floundering moderation cracked down, we got some funny situations out of it. One I think about often is a fake Chiquita account claiming to have overthrown the government of Brazil. In response, a screenshot of a tweet by the actual Chiquita account exists where they claim that they have not overthrown a government since 1954.

First off, it’s unclear whether that second tweet existed to begin with. Seems like someone added the “not overthrown a government since 1954” bit to the end of an existing tweet apologizing for the confusion. But even so, it’s not untrue. Originally the United Fruit Company before changing to Chiquita in 1990, they had lobbied the US government hard in the 50’s to intervene with Guatemala as the country had begun giving away their unused land. By claiming the country was becoming dangerously communist, they managed to get the CIA to promote a pro-business military dictatorship instead. Wow.
