TANGENTIALLY RELATED FACT to help you make conversation over this wine:
In 1698, French explorer Pierre Le Moyne d’Iberville along with his exploration party spotted a red painted stick stuck in the ground. You know what they called it? Red stick. But they were French, so it sounded fancier. Baton Rouge. That red stick was put there to demarcate where Houma and Bayagoula tribal grounds met. Around 1721, the actual settlement that would take the name Baton Rouge began to take shape. In 1755, displaced French settlers from Canada went down the Mississippi and would partially end up there, a people generally known as Cajuns. While it would eventually become the capital of modern day Louisiana, it has belonged to France, Britain, Spain, Louisiana (pre-acquisition), the Republic of West Florida, the Confederacy, and the US.
