TASTING NOTES:
2014 Vivendo - “A wine with a beautiful dark ruby red color with violet highlights. Outstanding fruit, with a nose full of red berries, black cherry, black pepper, and hints of violets. Those elements come through on the palate, with fresh black and red fruit, revealing a full-bodied wine.” (AbV 14.5%, 59% Syrah 31% Merlot 10% Cabernet Sauvignon)

2017 Vivendo - “Aromas of fresh fruit and a spicy touch of cinnamon and cloves. It is a wine with soft tannins and juicy acidity that impart a fine texture and a long, fresh finish.” (AbV 14.8%, Syrah 14% Merlot 35% Cabernet Sauvignon 51%)

2018 Estate Malbec - “Blueberries, stewed plums, violet essence, and pine needles on the nose. It’s full-bodied with fine tannins and a plush, ripe core of fruit. Drink now.” ~91, James Suckling (AbV 14.0%, 100% Malbec)

BARRELS: French oak. 26 months for the 2014, 12 months for 2017, and 3 months for the Malbec.

TANGENTIALLY RELATED FACT to help you make conversation over this wine:
Scylla and Charybdis are two beasts, or environmental hazards if you look at them through a more realistic lens, that lurked in the Strait of Messina between Sicily and Italy. Popularly known for their mentions in The Odyssey, Jason and the Argonauts, and the Aeneid, they posed a constant threat to sailors in the area who would have to carefully navigate the passage between them.

Scylla, on the Italian side of the strait, was a sea nymph cursed from the waist down to have giant rabid dog heads and a sea monster’s tail because of some jealous powerful being. Scylla lived in a cave on a cliff-face, thought to be where the town of Scilla would later be constructed. It is thought by contemporary scholars that Scylla actually referred to a rock shoal nearby that could shred through an inattentive ship.

Charybdis was yet another cursed nymph, or really just a big whirlpool, that could potentially bring a ship down. Three times a day, the whirlpool would form and draw in large quantities of water. There is still a whirlpool that seems to line up with the layout described in myth, but it isn’t very dangerous these days.
