The Maverick

TASTING NOTES:
Maverick - “Beginning with its gorgeous deep ruby color, this blend of Syrah and Sangiovese is aptly named for one of Michael’s first loves — his pup, Maverick. This wine will soon hold a special place in your heart too with its non-stop layers of juicy red plum, black tea, and nutmeg held together by zingy acids and a smooth finish.” (AbV 12.1%, 58% Syrah 40% Sangiovese 2% Graciano)

La Vaquera - “La Vaquera, our favorite cowgirl, continues the tradition of being sassy, spicy and fruity. Medium-bodied with pleasing acidity, this wine works well with all palates.” (AbV 12.5%, 60% Tempranillo 20% Grenache 20% Carignane)

Many things have been named Maverick over time. Movies. Planes. Sports teams. Armored vehicles. Really have your pick of the litter when it comes to Maverick-related topics. And what will I choose today? The roller coaster, baby! Back to my favorite, Cedar Point! (Despite the fact that I apparently haven’t brought it up since 2019.)

Anyway, added in 2007, it replaced the White Water Landing log flume ride which had been closed down in 2005. Has a Wild West theme, its mascot an imposing dark horse. It was the 500th design of famed German roller coaster engineer Werner Stengel, and cost $21 million to build. It is the first coaster to feature the element of a twisted horseshoe roll. What is a twisted horseshoe roll? Well, you take a corkscrew one way into a 180º curve and do a corkscrew on the way out. Looks like a horseshoe with the ends twisted. The ride also features a beyond-vertical drop. What’s that? Means the drop is more than a 90º angle. For the Maverick, it is a 95º drop.
