About Quinta da Plansel: In the late 1970’s, Hans Jörg Böhm arrived in Portugal to catalogue Portuguese wine varietals. He discovered about 300 different varietals and opened the first vine nursery in Portugal, dubbed “Evora.” His knowledge, passion and sense of purpose, to celebrate and ensure the future of indigenous varietals was passed to his daughter Dorina Lindemann, who in 1997 founded the winery Quinta da Plansel. Dorina’s work is focused on monovarietal wines and blends of the most significant grapes of northern Portugal: Touriga Nacional, Tinta Barroca and Touriga Franca.

Touriga Nacional - “Gorgeously perfumed, this Touriga Nacional is rich in aromas of fig, orange blossom, wild violets and plum. The structure is precise and the texture dense, both enhanced by time in oak, but there is also an overall elegance at work that lifts this above the bar.” (AbV 15.1%, pH 3.75, TA 5.8 g/L, RS 0.3%)

Reserva Tinto - “Mouthwatering and full, the Reserva Tinto exudes red and black currant, baked fig and black cherry on the nose. The palate is juicy and satisfying with enough structure to stand up to sturdier fare, but eminently quaffable on its own.” (AbV 14.5%, pH 3.75, TA 5.4 g/L, RS 0.22%)

VARIETALS: Reserva Tinto is 40% Tinta Barroca, 40% Touriga Nacional, and 20% Touriga Franca.

THAT REMINDS ME OF: The publication turned into a brand name slapped on any lowbrow comedy film that wants to buy it known as National Lampoon.

Originally, National Lampoon was a spinoff magazine of the then nearly a century old Harvard Lampoon. It contained adult comics, parody editorials, fiction articles, funny compilations of actual headlines, and eye-catching covers. It was in its prime during the 70’s, but it lingered through the 80’s into the 90’s.

Probably one of the most famous covers is the dog with a gun to its head. The caption read “If You Don’t Buy This Magazine, We’ll Kill This Dog.” Funny stuff. They even got the dog to have a concerned look.

There was also one of Minnie Mouse in pasties that landed them in hot water with Disney.
