Gorgeously perfumed, this Touriga Nacional is rich in aromas of fig, orange blossom, wild violets, and plum. The structure is precise and the texture dense, both enhanced by time in oak, but there is also an overall elegance at work that lifts this above the bar.
About the Wine
Dorina’s Touriga Nacional bottling was the first of its kind and has launched a new appreciation and excitement for the varietal in Portugal. Touriga Nacional produces a full-bodied red wine from Portugal with tremendous aging potential. Most commonly revered for its role in port production, it has only recently been championed as a dry red wine. It offers bold structure & profound depth of flavor at a terrific value.

2017 Dorina Lindemann Reserva Tinto
Tasting Notes
Mouthwatering and full, the Reserva Tinto exudes red and black currant, baked fig, and black cherry on the nose. The palate is juicy and satisfying with enough structure to stand up to sturdier fare, but eminently quaffable on its own.
About the Wine
Dorina’s varietal studies culminate in this Reserva Tinto bottling, combining the 3 principal varietals of her focus: Tinta Barroca, Touriga Nacional, and Touriga Franca. The result is a wine of rich aromatics, depth, and freshness – at a price perfect for everyday drinking. The Touriga Franca in this blend was planted in 2000 – 14 ha are dedicated to it at Quinta de Plansel.
Tinta Barroca grounds the blend with firm structure, depth, and grip, while Touriga Nacional provides perfume & ripe fruit character, and Touriga Franca lends fresh acidity and lift.

In the late 1970’s Hans Jörg Böhm, a German viticulturist of tremendous energy and passion, arrived in Portugal to undertake the daunting task of cataloging the Portuguese wine varietals. He suspected there were a number of lesser-known and unidentified varieties with great potential – he discovered about 300 different varietals and opened the first vine nursery in Portugal, dubbed “Evora” in the region of Alentejo.
This knowledge, passion and sense of purpose, to celebrate and ensure the future of indigenous varietals was passed to his daughter Dorina Lindemann, herself a young enologist who in 1997 founded the winery Quinta da Plansel.
Dorina’s work is focused on monvarietal wines and blends of the most significant grapes of northern Portugal: Touriga Nacional, Tinta Barroca and Touriga Franca. In 2001, she launched the first single varietal wines in Portugal and continues to champion these iconic grape varieties.

Hello and Good Morning! LabRat checking in! This bottle definitely made up my mind, I want to live in Portugal! We had the “Reserva Tinto” varietal. If you like port, you will love this wine. With roughly half the normal alcohol, but all the flavor of a port, this is a perfect meal ending glass. Hits of blackberry and pepper, we poured this one at around 55 degrees F (13 C for you folks from Portugal!) and let it warm up over episodes of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia! Each sip was great from the beginning to the end.
This is a must buy, and I’m in for 6. Especially at this price point, it’s a no-brainer. Order now, and it might be ready by Valentine’s day, where you’ll be sure to impress!
WE on the Touriga:
92 points. A perfumed wood-aged wine, this is produced from a Touriga Nacional selection identified by the producer. The wine is rich and structured, maybe almost too powerful but certainly showing fine tannins and a firm core. Age the wine further and drink from 2022. — Roger Voss 5/1/21
MUNDUS vini (?) Spring Tasting 2020. Silver Medal for the Touriga.
tastings.com on the Tinto:
89 points. Silver Medal. Highly Recommended
Medium ruby black color. Aromas and flavors of roasted coffee, leather, grilled plum, and black tea with a supple, crisp, dry medium body and a tingling, appealing, medium-length finish displaying elements of fig and honey roasted almonds with fine, well-integrated tannins and a suggestion of oak flavor. A bold, yet nuanced red with rich savory flair. 3/5/21

Hi Casemates! I got an email last week from Alice stating that a Rat Bottle was coming my way on Friday. I was excited to receive a 2017 Dorina Lindemann Touriga Nacional (Sel: 16), a Portuguese red wine. I love Portuguese wine!
I pulled the cork and poured a small amount in a Casemates wine glass. (Note: I received a new Casemates wine glass that will join my other Casemates glasses. Thank you Alice!) The color is a dark garnet red and a quick swirl showed long legs. On the nose and first taste, the wine has a nice light plum, cinnamon spice that was complemented with just a sliver of alcohol. It was a nice smooth balanced wine. The finish had light plum, calm tannins, and light alcohol.
I like to let red wine rest for 2 to 3 hours after opening before continuing the journey. So after three hours, the second pour showed the same well balanced plum, cinnamon spice, and light alcohol.
At the 6th hour, dinner included BBQ pork sliders, jojo’s, and coleslaw from our local Fat Heads Brewery. The wine definitely brought out the spice in the BBQ Sauce. Maybe too much spice for my palate. Then the alcohol on the finish kicked in too! I decided to shut down the tasting experience because I didn’t want the food to overwhelm the wine. I also wondered if the wine might not be food friendly. I was then surprised that the bottle label listed 15% alcohol. When I tasted the wine 3 hours earlier, it was very balanced with minimum alcohol. The dinner brought out more spice and alcohol in the wine. Let’s see what tomorrow brings.
Tomorrow arrives: I wanted to try the wine with some cheese today. I was gifted with some small samples of various cheeses and I wanted to see how they were with this wine. I brought out Aged Gouda, Mimolette, Black Truffle Cheddar, Extra Aged Cheddar, and Goat Cheese. Before I started the cheese sampling, I tried the wine. Today the spice and alcohol was more pronounced, especially on the finish. All the cheese worked well with the wine by calming the spice and the alcohol.
Conclusion: When the wine was consumed within the first 3 to 4 hours, it was great. I think spicy food would overload this wine. Yet the longer the bottle was uncorked, it seemed more spice and alcohol showed up and overwhelmed my taste buds. In hindsight, maybe I should have decanted it overnight. I just vacuum pumped the bottle. Cheese brought the wine back to into my wheelhouse. If you like a nice plum, cinnamon spice Portuguese wine and take the time to decant or aerate the wine to lower the alcohol, it should be nice journey.
I’m really lousy on predicting cost of the wine on this site, To me, whatever I pay for wine isn’t a factor if it’s really good wine. Casemates has always been a great place to find very nice wine! That’s the reason our basement has absolutely no more room for anything so I’m not wanting to add any more wine at this time.
As always, thanks to Alice, David, and all the people behind the scenes at CASEMATES!
I know Touriga is traditionally used for port but is finding a niche as a straight varietal. In 2023 I found a local vineyard in Washington State that grows Portuguese Varietals. Being a home winemaker and of Portuguese descent I had to try it. I picked up some grapes and have several gallons in carboys and French oak going through MLF right now. I can’t wait to try the commercial wine compared to my wine. Hard to find 100% at any local store. I fermented mine dry but noticed they have a little residual sugar. Great price for the Touriga!
@Shoug OK I had to pop the Touriga and see what it tastes like. I admittedly don’t have a lot of experience with Touriga mostly West Coast New World Wines. The wine has a nice deep, yet bright garnet color experienced with younger wine not a 2017. Expecting bright fruit, I actually got more of a jammy over ripe fruit you would expect from a grape used for port. The 15% masking some of the fruit and nose. Definitely get the prune plum flavors and subtle tannins. The flavor more of an aged, oxidized wine than a bright fruit the color shows. I had a wine that I forgot to sulfite that I was bulk aging and I got similar characteristics. The bright color but over ripe flavor. 2020 but taste like a 2016. I sulfited right before I bottled, and it continues to improve.
The color on this Touriga shows many more years left but the flavor says drink now. No sweetness like a port, this is a dry wine. Not long on the finish. Continues to open up for several hours. This wine should be good for a few years but I have had many expensive wines that were popped a few years too late. Pop one now and drink to your palate.
I am presently drinking the 2015 Dorina, Lindemann Touriga Nacional, And still is quite delicious with
Substantial tannins, great viscosity and deep rich ruby red wine. I bought a case earlier in the day.
And I’m looking forward to drinking the reserva tinto as well. Really hard to beat for the price, Last time it was offered, It was about three dollars a bottle more. Enjoy, and I do believe it has plenty of time to age some more including the 15 I’m presently enjoying.

Ordered and received 6 bottles of which I have opened three. A nice wine, but two of them had major sediment in bottom. Not good!
@richferg
These reusable wine filter spouts will solve any sediment problems. They can be easily found online and they aren’t expensive.
