About Fossil Point Wines
Located within the Central Coast AVA, Fossil Point Wines is named after the scenic Fossil Point of Avila Beach. Similarly, their vineyard sources all share a particular closeness to the Pacific Ocean, their soil composed of once ancient seafloors’ coarse sand and shale weathered over time. Respectful of the coastal landscape, they pride sustainability in hopes of preserving the high quality of their land. Melding the hospitable coastal lifestyle and ease of the Central California landscape, Fossil Point’s wines reflect both these qualities in their approachability and quality.

Pointillism was originally a pejorative description used by art critics regarding works developed by Georges Seurat and Paul Signac in the late 1880’s, but it would come to be the accepted nomenclature for the style soon after. As you might guess by the name, the style utilizes dots, or points, of color rather than lines and brushstrokes to make a picture. Branching from the larger Impressionist movement, the technique was utilized by many famous painters, including Van Gogh. Interestingly, a few musical movements in the 20th century mimicked the style, such as klangfarbenmelodie (sound-color melody). Klangfarbenmelodie would have its melody change instruments constantly rather than stay consistent, creating a shifting texture and timbre to it. You could thus see the instruments as akin to individual brushes, each with a singular color, and every note they play as another point/dot on the canvas.
