Putting the Plow Before the Horse

TASTING NOTES: “Complex aromas of boysenberry and earth, it is rich and velvety on the palate, and finishes with fine tannins and balanced acidity.

We ferment each lot separately, then barrel select our favorites for the blend. The resulting wine is rich, full bodied, and velvety.” (AbV 14%, pH 3.55, TA 6.0 g/L)

VARIETALS: 41% Carignane, 32% Grenache, 17% Syrah, 10% Petite Sirah

BARRELS: French oak.

PAIRS WITH: Grilled foods.

THAT REMINDS ME OF: Putting the cart before the horse.

You know how you attach a cart to a horse, and the horse pulls the cart? Well, what if we made the horse push the cart instead? I mean, it is possible. It isn’t exactly intuitive, or natural, but you can do it. I guess. Ill-advised.

Anyway, that’s what it means to put the cart before the horse. Do something in a way that doesn’t make sense, or that seems to misunderstand the way things fundamentally work.

Like making a wine bottle with the opening on the bottom. Is that a thing? I don’t think that’s a thing. It’s probably not a thing. For good reason!
