Plow, Right in the Kisser
                        TASTING/PRODUCTION NOTES:
Grenache - “A potpourri of dried flowers, red cherries, raspberries and cinnamon lights up the aroma of this full-bodied but lithe wine before fresh blackberries and more raspberries fill out the palate. With lively acidity and moderate tannins, the wine will be easy to pair with cheeses, meats and pastas. Organically grown.” - Jim Gordon (AbV 14.5%, pH 3.70, TA 5.8 g/L)
Syrah - “This Syrah comes from Canihan Vineyard, located in the cool climate AVA of the Sonoma Coast. The Syrah was picked by hand, fermented with 5% Viognier and cold soaked for 7 days. We fermented each lot in small open-top tanks, punch-down by hand, and aged in French Oak barrels. This wine is not fined or filtered.” (AbV 14.6%, pH 3.71, TA 6.0 g/L)
VARIETALS: Grenache is 100% Grenache, Syrah is 95% Syrah and 5% Viognier.
BARRELS: French oak, the Syrah at least in 33% new.
PAIRS WITH: Jim says cheeses, meats and pastas, so let’s go with that.
THAT REMINDS ME OF: The Honeymooners.
Originally a sketch by Jackie Gleason that had been a part of his variety shows, it proved popular enough that CBS ordered 78 episodes in two 39 episode seasons. It lasted 39, one season, primarily due to Gleason running out of ideas and not wanting to phone it in/let it degrade. Between the variety show sketches and that season, however, it cemented itself as a part of sitcom and TV history.
Ralph Kramden, a bus driver, and his wife Alice live in a small, sparsely furnished apartment in Brooklyn, one floor below their friends Ed and Trixie Norton. Ralph doesn’t make much, so he’s often looking for ways to make some extra cash or expand his sphere of influence in his job, home, and social circles. While Alice often gives him a dose of realism, Ralph will disregard her at first. He tends to threaten people when he’s upset, things like “pow, right in the kisser” and “straight to the moon,” but it’s played off as a joke. Pretty sure the only person he ever beat up was a bank robber.
