TASTING NOTES: “A wonderful representation of a California modern style pinot noir that is everything you want in an approachable wine. All five clonal types (115, 828, 777, 626, and Pommard 4) are blended together to create this fantastic wine. The 5 Clone has balance and structure along with flavors of dark cherry, strawberry, vanilla, cola, and floral hints on the nose.” (AbV 15.2%)

THAT REMINDS ME OF: When Heinz released colored ketchups in the early 2000’s. The first was green, which makes some sense, considering green tomatoes exist. However, I’m pretty sure they didn’t use green tomatoes. They later added purple, blue, pink, orange, and teal the years before ultimately pulling them from the shelves.

In order to get these very not-red colors, they had to make some adjustments to the recipe, mainly in terms of food coloring. These adjustments were significant enough that they couldn’t claim they were “tomato ketchup” on the bottle anymore. They probably were scared this would turn people off it, so they did the thing all food brands scared they won’t be seen as healthy do: add a bunch of vitamin C.
