TASTING NOTES: “The central coast influence of this elegantly light bodied Pinot Noir exudes fruity yet earthy aromas. It is a beautiful example of the complexity Edna Valley terroir has to offer with its bright red fruit of cherry, strawberry and cranberry coupled with forest floor, black tea and tobacco from a hint of French oak influence. Crisp acidity and soft tannins of this wine brightens its floral finish.” (AbV 13.5%)

THAT REMINDS ME OF: The Prose Edda, a famous 13th century Icelandic work that compiled Nordic myths and poetry, as well as analysis of said poetry. It is the basis for much of our modern knowledge of Norse mythology, though there are some oddities to its framing and several variations existed between 1300 and 1600. The Icelandic historian and politician Snorri Sturluson is believed to be the author of the majority of the work, but only a few parts are 100% confirmed to be his own writing.

Interestingly, the work proposes a theory that the gods of the Old Norse were in truth Trojans and their descendants. Sounds weird, right? The idea is that Thor was the grandson of the last Trojan king who left before the fall and became renowned in his travels to the North. While this might seem like a wild theory, this framing may have been a measure to keep the work out of the church’s crosshairs, disguising it all as an exploration of lost history rather than accounts of pagan gods.
