The central coast influence of this elegantly light-bodied Pinot Noir exudes fruity yet earthy aromas. It is a beautiful example of the complexity Edna Valley terroir has to offer with its bright red fruit of cherry, strawberry, and cranberry coupled with forest floor, black tea, and tobacco from a hint of French oak influence. Crisp acidity and soft tannins of this wine brighten its floral finish.
After graduating with a degree in Wine and Viticulture at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Anie developed a special bond with the vineyards of the central coast. She was able to come full circle by making the inaugural 2021 vintage from Edna Valley. By being one of the longest ripening seasons in California, Edna Valley is influenced by the cool breezes of the central coast and the valley which rolls east to west. Pinot Noir clone 667 ripens beautifully in this region with the warm days and cool nights that are perfectly balanced due to this ideal location to the coast.
What’s the famous saying?
“Find a job you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life.”
Kochana Wines is a way for me to honor family members who made it possible for me to be who I truly am and want to be.
Because of my family, the love of winemaking, hard work and dedication, Kochana Wines became tangible.
It has taken some time and a lot of learning, but Anie’s experiences have given her the ability to finally make wine for herself, as a woman winemaker in California. With her 12th harvest under her belt, there are still things to learn every day about the wine industry. Constant challenges that all winemakers face is something Anie grapples with now – Climate Change, social indifferences, supply chain demands – More reasons why she is thankful every time she gets wine to bottle from each of her vineyard designates. Though creating Kochana Wines has been Anie’s dream come true, she knows it’s not just about the winemaker. It is all about the relationships - the vineyard growers, the cellar workers, the salespersons, the consumers – all these aspects encompass the wine industry, and one would not exist without the other. So when drinking a bottle of great wine, it’s good to remind ourselves how much time, hard work and passion goes in to making that bottle!

So I’m a rat, and will touch this up in an hour or 2 but have some meetings - just wanted to paste notes real quick - the description is spot on
Initial smell cranberry, taste was fruit forward tart finish, I also said dirt
After 2 hours, the tartness simmered down, more earthy tones and leather smell, tasted earth and leather, cherry and light oak vanilla
Day 2 - smoother still cherry, oak, earthy/dirt
I guessed $30 retail, $12-$15 case mates. Have tons of Pinots so probably won’t purchase but I thought it certainly represented the area “terroir” the fancy people say I think?
tldr: This wine is varietally true and well-made. I tend to prefer my Pinots on the elegant side, not too funky, and this didn’t disappoint, though it also wasn’t that interesting.
Used a Coravin to extract 2 glasses from the bottle as I knew we didn’t have time to finish it yesterday. Will open the bottle today and finish it and post a follow up.
Color is ruby red, semi-transparent. Nose is cherry with a touch of cranberry.
Taste is fruit forward, lively. Sour cherry. Elegant. Good acidity on finish. Slightly bitter aftertaste on finish but not unpleasant. Don’t know that I really get forest floor or funk but there is something there beyond just fruit. Does seem like it reflects terroir and probably also that they are using single clone 667. Balanced.
My husband found it pretty unremarkable but he did finish his glass easily.
Retail at $50 reflects pinot inflation and new winery. At $25-$30/bottle, seems fair and appropriate.
I definitely like this better than the Four Graces pinot I recently had at an event.

You have to enable the screen rotation setting on your phone. Then hold your phone sideways. Then you will see this icon, which enables you to upload photos directly into your post.
So … slightly off topic. What is the process for embedding pics? Do you upload them to this server or do you upload them to your own (Google Drive/Dropbox, etc) and then insert the link? A simple step by step would be great. Thanks.
@woopdedoo
pretty easy, start a post (if from a phone you MUST be in landscape mode to begin with) click on the moon/mountain icon at the bottom and follow directions. You upload directly, no links unless the link ends with an acceptable format; jpg, img, png…

“Does that wine taste like a forest floor?”
“Why yes, yes it does.”
“I’ll take a dozen”
I get that wine snobs are required to be pretentious but geez o pete
@CraigDanger Lol, guilty as charged. The more funky the aroma, the more i like my pinot. Will be interested in hearing from the rats on this one!
@CraigDanger @StingingJ it’s not that funky. Maybe a 3-4 on funk scale.
@aces219 @CraigDanger thanks for the heads up!
And from comments made on earlier offers, a three or four bottle option would be a nice step up from just two or twelve.
From Stephen McConnell (?) …
Mommy Dearest I could sell END-CAPS of this stuff.
fwiw

@rjquillin basically, if I have pics on my phone, what is the best way to share them here? I don’t understand this interface.

@aces219 @rjquillin You can also click the settings menu and “view desktop site” or something similar.
Opened the wine tonight, consistent with yesterday. My husband liked the nose much better today, maybe since poured through a Haley’s Corker.
@aces219 @Rstoker
Don’t think I’ve ever seen that. Apple or Android?
