About Kukeri Wines
Sourcing Cabernet Sauvignon from Mount Veeder and Pinot Noir from Petaluma Gap, Los Carneros, and the Russian River Valley, Kukeri Wines focuses on small lots that take full advantage of their specific terroir. Named for an ancient Bulgarian rite of Dionysus (god of wine and fertility), Kukeri is the product of Petar Kirilov, from Bulgaria himself. With over a decade of experience since graduating from the University of Food Technologies with a masters in winemaking, Kukeri is Petar’s opportunity to focus on small-lot, high quality wines sourced and showcasing single vineyards.

TASTING NOTES:
“True to the Mount Veeder appellation, this wine exhibits dark concentrated fruit flavors of mountain blueberry and black raspberry and well-integrated fine-grained tannins with excellent mountain acidity. Big, bold, and ultra-ripe on the attack, packed with small black-fruit preserves, doused with creme de cassis. A hint of forest, cedar and rich vanilla French oak, and roast espresso flavors also combine these aromatics to create this massively rich full-bodied mountain Cabernet Sauvignon.” (100% Cabernet Sauvignon)

The khukuri or kukri is a short curved blade originally associated with hunting and eventually warfare. Used by the Gurkha, who populate part of Nepal and India, the kukri gradually became a rather famous weapon as the Gurkha fought in World War I and II alongside the British. Its use spread among the Allies training in India, and it remains a part of the modern Brigade of Gurkhas training. In Bram Stoker’s original Dracula, rather than a stake, Dracula’s heart is pierced by a Bowie knife after having his throat cut by a kukri.
