THAT REMINDS ME OF: Languedoc.

Why was it called Languedoc? Because it was the place where the langue d’oc existed, of course.

Fun fact, as of 2016, Languedoc, or Languedoc-Roussillon as it was for some decades, is no longer an official administrative region in France. In 2014, French parliament decided 22 regions was too many to deal with, so they would reduce it to just 13 effective January 1st, 2016. Languedoc-Roussillon was merged with several others to become Occitania. This change would cause some grievances, particularly from the French Catalans, who also merged into Occitania and who were decidedly not Occitan.

In the past and perhaps to this day, Languedoc refers to a crescent-shaped area on the southeastern end of the country, touching the Mediterranean Sea. It included the cities of Toulouse and Montpellier, as far as recognizable names go, and a whopping 700,000 acres of vineyards. This makes it the largest wine-producing region in the world.

As an extra factoid, Languedoc provided the French soldiers during World War I wine rations. Soldiers would receive one Camembert and 25-75 centiliters of red wine daily.
