THAT REMINDS ME OF: PB&J! The old standby!

But just how old is it?

Up until 1900, peanut butter was most often paired with savory spreads. People did stuff like peanut butter and pimento. In the late, late 1800’s, the suggestion began to circulate that one should spread peanut butter on bread for a sandwich. A recipe resembling peanut butter and jelly surfaced in writing in 1901, but it wasn’t standard. This would change with the revolutionary advancement that would be sliced bread.

Yes, that is correct. Sliced bread, AKA the best thing preceding whatever you decided was the next best thing since sliced bread, became a thing in the 1920’s. By World War II onward, we were even giving US soldiers PB&J as rations.
