TASTING NOTES:
“Meyer lemon, and a hint of white peach aroma jump out of the glass. A bright and refreshing white wine, with complex layers of sea mist and minerality, will quench any thirst on a hot summer day. Inspiration for this wine style developed while drinking the white wines from the Amalfi Coast of Italy, where the mountains meet the sea.” (AbV 14%)

A lodestone is a chunk of naturally magnetized magnetite, which is, despite the name, pretty rare to find. Magnetite itself is a form of iron ore, and when magnetized, it attracts other iron ore! Anyway, lodestones were important because they were generally humanity’s first interaction with magnetism. Pieces of lodestone became early compasses. The name lodestone itself means leading/journey stone.

There is a question that remains somewhat unanswered regarding the lodestone, however. How did it get magnetized in the first place? Magnetite isn’t naturally magnetized. It’s attracted to a magnetic field, but it doesn’t attract metals itself. The Earth’s magnetic field is too weak on its own to have done it. Could it have been… lightning strikes!? Lodestones ARE found close to the surface. Hmmm…
