TASTING NOTES: “The wine expresses beautiful floral notes of dried rose petal and violets along with high toned black and red fruit. The mouth is filled with dried cherry, pomegranate and even hints of black tea. The wine has a lively finish and will continue to age gracefully for an additional 3-5 years based on our previous work with the vineyard.“ (AbV 13.9%, pH 3.95, TA 5.26 g/L)

THAT REMINDS ME OF: How you always hear people respond to things over radio communications with roger. Where’d that come from?

In military communication, clarity is key. To ensure that there are no misunderstandings, much is delivered in short, recognizable messages. Many times, these messages are communicated through a single letter or spelled out very deliberately and succinctly. It can be easy to mishear a single letter, however, so a system of words was devised to represent each letter. We’ve ended up with something like a double substitution. They’re replacing full words with letters, and the letters are represented by full words. Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, etc. And in World War II, roger was representative of “r,” which in the context of a radio message indicates “received.” These days “r” is represented by Romeo, but roger has been kept as the response to receiving communication.

In addition, you might have heard “roger wilco” before. This is short for “received, will comply.”
