TASTING NOTES:
Barbera - “Wine has bright red fruit, ripe cherry, roses, cherry tobacco, spicy with white pepper, sage and cloves showing a bright center palate with a balanced full and long lingering finish.” (AbV 14.5%, pH 3.5, RS Dry <.2%)

Zinfandel - “Dark briary fruit of mulberry, white pepper, cigar box, ripe strawberry, grilled steak, spicy, cherry tobacco, sage, and plum lead to an extractive fleshy structure with firm tannin and a balanced long lingering finish.” (AbV 14.5%, pH 3.56, RS Dry @ 0.2%)

Old Vine Zinfandel - “Red fruit forward, rich full flavors expressing both the varietal and the Amador Terroir. This complex wine has bright cherry/berry, white pepper, strawberry, cedar cigar box, marjoram, a full tannin structure, luscious mouthfeel with a long bright cherry finish.” (AbV 14.5% , pH 3.46, RS Dry @ 0.14%)

VARIETALS: Barbera is 83% Barbera, 6% Mourvèdre, 6% Zinfandel 3% Tempranillo & 2% Vermentino. Old Vine is 51% Primitivo & 49% Zinfandel. Mountain Selection Zinfandel is 100% Zinfandel.

BARRELS: 21 months in French oak.

THAT REMINDS ME OF: Gryphons. Or griffins. Or griffons.

Gryphons were beasts purported to have bird heads and wings but a body like that of a lion. The Ancient Greeks thought they were out in Asia and/or Southern Africa, guarding gold. It seems to be a human thing, to think that great beasts must also value the shiny metal as much as we do. Did you know they thought there were giant ants in India that dig for gold? They really did. Birds, I sort of understand. Some birds like to collect things that sparkle. But ants? Ants?
