TASTING NOTES: “Blackberries and spice spill onto the palate. This generous Pinot has breadth and expanse, yet shows poise from seams of grown ripe tannins. There are complexities galore with sandalwood and Campari spice interacting with dark plum fruits. The palate is long and persistent yet light on its feet, bringing you back for more. This is a powerful wine and a fine example of cool climate, high altitude Macedon ranges Pinot Noir.“ (AbV 13.2%, pH 3.65, TA 5.6 g/L)

THAT REMINDS ME OF: The time Gandalf showed up at Edoras in Rohan disguised as a beggar.

Though at first refused entry, he gets inside after a day and manages to meet with the king. Théoden, already under Gríma’s influence for a few years, tells him he needs to go but can take a horse with him. Any horse. So Gandalf chooses a silvery-grey one named Shadowfax who also just happens to be the greatest horse alive, a descendant of the horse ridden by the first king of Rohan and possibly a descendant of the horse of a literal god.

Shadowfax doesn’t like him, though, so he keeps his distance from Gandalf. In response, Gandalf chases him for two days. Just imagine Ian McKellen in his Gandalf costume running after a horse for 48 hours straight.
