About tercero wines
Larry Schaffer IS tercero wines. Once upon a time, he worked in the ever stable “music” and “publishing” industries. He soon realized that he desired more from life, perhaps more of a challenge. So, he went back to school, faced down humanity’s age old foe “The Sciences,” and emerged with degrees in both Viticulture and Enology, leading to a promising future in wine. A year after he moved to the Santa Ynez Valley and worked as enologist for Fess Parker Winery, he took the plunge and started making his own wines under a personal label: tercero wines.

TASTING NOTES from LARRY:
Verbiage Blanc - “My 2016 Verbiage Blanc is a blend of 58% Roussanne, 9% Marsanne and 33% Grenache Blanc. Each component was aged for 16 months in older French oak on their lees and were left unracked until just before bottling. This is a rich, unctuous wine that also has great acidity. And it’s quite ageworthy as well. My favorite verbiage blanc release to date!” (AbV 14.1%)

Grenache Blanc - “A blend of two different sites here in the Santa Ynez Valley - each lot was whole cluster pressed, and then fermented and aged on their lees for 16 months in older French oak barrels, unracked until just before bottling. The extra time in oak on their lees definitely added to more body in the wine but did not detract from the freshness of the wine whatsoever. Drinking great but will age beautifully as well.” (AbV 14.1%)

aberration - “The latest release of my aberrations, the 2019 is probably my most ‘fruit forward’ initially. It’s a blend of 60% Cinsault and 40% Grenache. Both varieties were foot stomped by Larry, fermented with their stems, pressed and then aged in Stainless Steel. I prefer to serve this chilled - it is a very ‘crushable’ wine…” (AbV 12.0%)

In Dungeons & Dragons, Aberration is a type of creature used to describe things that are of an unnatural origin. This could mean they were created artificially, originated on a different plane of existence, or just don’t make sense in the “natural” world. The most well-known of the Aberrations is likely the beholders, giant floating eyeballs with multiple other eyestalks sprouting from atop them, all of which could shoot magical rays of varying effects. There are also the mind flayers, or illithids, magical brain-eating squid faces, and the chuul, angry lobster quadrupeds that could paralyze you. Also flumphs, which are smart, helpful floating jellyfish with eyes and a mouth (or mouthes).
