THAT REMINDS ME OF: The ancient and mysterious Stonehenge! Rhymes with the Messenge- part of Messenger, which now that I think about it, why is it messenger instead of messager? Another time.

Yes, back to Stonehenge. One day the devil bought some big rocks from a woman in Ireland and hauled them over to the middle of Salisbury Plain. When he put them up, he gleefully commented that nobody would ever know how these dang stones got here! At least, that’s how one tale goes.

In truth, the site went through multiple constructions between about 3100 BC and 1600 BC. At first, it was a circular ditch with animal bones at the bottom. There might’ve been a timber circle, but nothing remains of that. Then, there was likely a timber structure in the middle of the circle where human cremations were done. Finally, they start adding the rocks around 2600. First small stones, then the big ones. The horseshoe of them in the center is arranged to house the sun at different times of the year.

Though primarily used for burials and cremations early on, it might’ve been a pilgrimage site associated with healing. And then when healing didn’t happen, they’d do the other stuff. Who knows for sure.
