Corporal punishment has been around for millennia. And across the ages, people seem to always come up with more ways to hurt people. Or at least variants on how to hurt people.

The cat o’ nine tails is a flogging whip that was common within the British Navy and Army. As you might guess, it has nine plaited thongs coming off a thick base. Usually it’s made of leather or rope. It tears at your skin and they loved to do it dozens of times in a row, usually in front of everybody else. Sometimes your coworkers (other sailors or soldiers) would take turns doing it to you. Sometimes they’d do it with your ass out. As bad as things get, at least corporal punishment has been diminished over the centuries…

Anyway, it’s a dozen lashes for drunkenness. But only if you get caught.
