THAT REMINDS ME OF: The Parable of the Prodigal Son, one of the parables of Jesus.

A father has two sons. The younger asks for his inheritance early, and he goes off on his own, using it to party it up far away. The older son stays with the father and helps out.

After a while, the younger son has squandered his money and fallen destitute. Eventually, he comes back to the father, thinking he will need to beg to be brought back into his home, and not even as his son, but as a servant. The father is instead overjoyed by his return and welcomes him back with a celebration.

The older son who stayed is less than impressed, however, and complains about how the first son is celebrated despite going away and wasting his money. The father simply replies that while the older had remained and thus already shared everything the father has, the younger had returned as if from the dead, and that itself was worthy of celebration.
