A lively pink color. Floral hints complement touches of strawberry and red currant. Balanced in the mouth with good acidity and fresh fruit notes. Enjoy with grilled fish, elaborate salads, and light meat dishes, or as an apéritif. A slight spritz makes this fun and refreshing, and it’s also low in alcohol for those looking to cut back. Vidigal was recently The New York Times/Eric Asimov’s most highly recommended Vinho Verde!

@kaolis thanks for the info. I’m always trying to figure out the RS. Correct me if I’m wrong. This would qualify as being on the high end of “dry” or the low end of “off-dry”.
@albany14us Yeahhhhh I’d say you are basically correct. In the US of A many say 0 to 9 dry, 10 to 18 off dry. The EU puts that threshold at 0 to 4 dry in most instances… acidity comes into play too, higher acidity and the higher RS is masked if that’s the right term. Perhaps someone who really knows what they are talking about can chime in… ha!
Long story short I really liked this wine and am buying a case for the summer.
Pop and pour the wine is a pretty pale salmon in the glass, and definitely smells like fresh fruit. Very bright and refreshing.
Our tasting notes start with lots of fresh berries, and we liked the rich body of the wine. Mid palate I felt like I was reminded of watermelon jolly ranchers, and it finished kinda like an barely ripe peach.
I know the main concerns will be regarding residual sugars, and I felt like it was very well integrated. With the good acid, slight effervescence, and serving it nice and chilled I didn’t really notice it at all. The wine is very fruity though, this isn’t for you if you only like Provencal style rose.
I wish I woulda known how cheap it was gonna be, I resisted all three offerings this week waiting for this one. I plan to enjoy this wine outside during the warm summer months.

My apologies for the labrat failure. I was ready, but then life & work hit - so just remembered this morning. Posting my notes in few minutes, for the record
Always a delight to get an unexpected delivery from Casemates. I never seem to see the email before it turns up, but even though it’s been a while, the spouse knows the drill and texts, “looks like you’ve got a lab rat delivery”. Thanks for getting this out without more days to do a report, which with the chaos of the week allowed us to pick a good day for shared notes (alas, while you’d think it would provide time to also assess a good pairing, these rats are not that organized). We also received one of the Casemates glasses in our box, so now feel a bit like we’ve been promoted to ‘official’ lab rats, hurrah!
Onto the job at hand. A lovely bottle of Vidigal Vihno Verde. We like rose, though mostly in the summer, which it is not - but no worries, we will do our duty. Screw cap - there are haters, but we are not them! Easy, and won’t cause panic if your rental cabin for ski week doesn’t have a corkscrew - true story from last week but never fear, we keep a swiss army knife in the car just for such times & recommend you do likewise. Quick twist & pour - it’s a little bubbly in the glass & a pale salmon-pink color. Sniff - definitely a light fruity bouquet, red berries - didn’t note much else.
My first sip: lightly sweet and frizzante (I enjoyed this slightly bubbly wine in a visit to Italy a while ago), but crisp with a short finish - so the sweetness isn’t too much & doesn’t linger (as someone who generally doesn’t like sweetness in wines). Spouse says “dry yet fruity” which was confusing to me (not at all dry, lol) but then later “slightly sweet when less fizzy” - so think initial comment was because the slight bubbles balanced the sweet well. Otherwise we agreed on crisp & not too complex, and that it’s overall quite nice and easy to drink. It’d be a great summer sipper that reminds us of al fresco dining in a sunny café. I expect this to come in at a very reasonable price point, and would then be worth stocking for the summer & will go quickly as this bottle did in our house.
Thanks as always for the opportunity to rat!
(Adding: of course, given my failure & just now seeing the price point, am sad to have missed the chance to buy. Great QPR from casemates as usual)

Unlike some of you I’m metrically challenged. So I had to look it up…
1 gram per cubic decimeter is 1 gram per liter.

@albany14us @kaolis The IRF site seems to be down. But this site seems to have the scale: http://clearlakewinetasting.blogspot.com/2012/12/how-sweet-is-your-riesling-part-2.html

@CruelMelody sorry I thought I added the image but it’s hard to figure out what I’m doing on my phone.
@CruelMelody phone must be in landscape for that, but banner added for all…

Love Vinho Verde – especially the Rose version. A little lower in alcohol, and easy to drink.
Also, it makes a fantastic white/pink sangria.
In for one.

@sallliu Well, even though it’s after the fact, I’m glad to see a favorable review, given that a few bottles are headed my way.
Seems to be a hit with the kids and their neighbors.
