“The Wittmann estate has as its foundation the pursuit of balanced wines that have tension, depth and intensity, but are at the same time fresh and elegant. Owner Philipp Wittmann has no doubt that this complex character can only be created in the vineyard, so attention to detail in the viticulture is of primary importance. Philipp looks for natural balance in the vineyards, in order to slow the ripening process and harvest grapes that have fully developed flavors, but are not overripe and still have moderate must weights. All of the Wittmann estate vineyards are certified Organic and Biodynamic.”

TASTING NOTES:
Pinot Blanc - “This is a creamy, fresh Pinot Blanc with an animating acidity and a fine minerality. It’s elegant with an invigorating freshness of ripe fruit and nuts – an excellent Pinot Blanc for everyday enjoyment that pairs well with all foods.” (AbV 13.0%, TA 5.5 g/L, RS 5.7 g/L)

Riesling - “A modern classic. Elegant with invigorating freshness of grapefruit and peach. Amazingly juicy and fresh with lively acidity and a fine minerality. An essential everyday Riesling to be enjoyed with seasonal salads, fresh vegetables, white meats or fish.” (AbV 12.0%, TA 8.0 g/L, RS 7.0 g/L)

TANGENTIALLY RELATED FACT to help you make conversation over this wine:
Walt Whitman is one of the most well known and influential American poets out there. Active through the mid-1800’s, it was with the initial release of Leaves of Grass that he cemented himself as a poet. Early on, critics found it potentially too sexual, but it gained significant interest. Whitman’s decision to emboss one of Ralph Waldo Emerson’s praises of the work on its second edition ended up the progenitor of the trend where books put critic reviews on the cover. Unfortunate. Whitman was a big Lincoln fan, and he volunteered as a nurse during the Civil War. He would go on to write the famous “O Captain! My Captain!” in his memory following the assassination. Also turns out Whitman was vocal about temperance, so somewhat ironic to theme this on him. Ah well.

Pinot Blanc with anything, Riesling with salads, vegetables, and white meats (or fish).
