TASTING NOTES: “Pale, salmon color. The nose offers suggestions of watermelons, white nectarines, fresh raspberry, Mirabelle plums, and white flowers. Feels like summer in a glass. The palate is medium body and polished, with a textural elegance alongside salted minerals and saline notes. Also, notes of blood orange, pink grapefruit. The bright, long finish is clean and thirst quenching.” (AbV 12.0%)

THAT REMINDS ME OF: A butcher block.

Ever wished you could chop stuff up directly on your counter or table? That’s where a butcher block comes in. Literally giant blocks of hard wood, usually maple, that in more modern settings have been given legs or even incorporated into countertops. Cutting boards are fine and all, but there is an allure to having one as a permanent fixture, isn’t there?

Butcher blocks typically are constructed with edge grain or end grain. Edge grain refers to the edges of a log, while end grain refers to the ends of the log. End grain tends to be more expensive, but by using the ends, you get benefits like resisting knife scarring and being antibacterial (vesicles in the wood carry bacteria inside where it dries out and dies).
