Dang it! Went down the rabbit hole with the NHL player (Ryan), getting Caterina, thus Poundstone Wines from their use of Sangiocomo’s Catarina Vineyard.
I did some research and most breweries that would want to do this are self distributors. Self distribution laws vary by each state – but breweries are restricted to selling beers to permit holders (restaurants, Liquor stores). I think the idea of casemates is to pass off logistics to the winery, and it doesn’t seem feasible to have breweries do this.
@rjquillin It was a stretch to make the connection to the lack of a clue being the clue. It was the best I could do to order the chaos. About 8 years ago I got a clue of “invisible” through WD being a James Stewart fan to Harvey. But being new to the game didn’t get to Scott Harvey. Now that was a stretch.
The proximity to the Atacama, makes rain in this region extremely rare, extending the grape growing season by 6 weeks more than other regions of South America.
With its own unique microclimate caused by its proximity to the
Atacama Desert and the Pacific has led to three of Chile’s largest
wineries; Concha y Toro, San Pedro and Santa Rita to produce wines
here.
@MarkDaSpark Friday clues are the hardest. but here goes. sound like a french villa where the star of “what’s up Doc” (it holds up if you watch it again, very funny).
@MarkDaSpark@Winedavid49 Swilly didn’t have to say anything. His wines are almost always high alcohol and he talks about them in proof sometimes. When you say Zeppelin, I think high alc. So to me that was the clue, fwiw.
@MarkDaSpark@rjquillin@Winedavid49 maybe it’s one of the other Mondavi kids that owns one of the big brands we see here a lot. Can’t remember the name at the moment.
With a legacy that developed Opus One into a world-renowned icon, winemaker Daniel Manies has ventured out on his own to develop his own signature label of elegant wines.
Johnny was a schoolboy when he heard his first Beatle song, ‘Love me do,’ I think it was. From there it didn’t take him long. Got himself a guitar, used to play every night, Now he’s in a rock ‘n’ roll outfit,
@klezman@MarkDaSpark@Winedavid49
Only one problem, I can think of…
Gamma rays are the real deal. I used to build instruments and detectors for them that are still in orbit.
@Winedavid49 OK, there’s a Marshall Davis winery, that says “We make Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from our estate vineyard located in The Yamhill-Carlton AVA…”
Very tricky if that’s right, since there really isn’t an actress named Gina Davis… There is a Geena tho.
I can see why we ALL thought it would be Ocean Reserve!
I am very excited to announce a new partnership. Proceeds from our just released 2019 vintage of Ocean Reserve Blanc de Blancs will be donated to The Marine Mammal Center, the world’s largest marine mammal hospital, based in Sausalito, CA. The caring work that the scientists, veterinarians and expert caregivers provide for sick and injured marine mammals is both heart-warming and essential to the diverse eco system of our California coast, helping protect the health of the ocean.
@MarkDaSpark clue? VERY excited about this offer. a long par 5 from my house and the walk would pass by vineyards owned by the grower mentioned on these bottles.
please tell your friends about this one. i consider the grower as friends.
@karenhynes@MarkDaSpark@Winedavid49
This, or a nearly identical, clue has been used before, I think; but my grey matter is leaking out so I have no additional recollection.
@MarkDaSpark I have to think that Alice told me the wrong night. It is yours and mine favorite varietal and I hope it is the right price, as it was a great bottle. I would have hinted more beachy less hawky.
@klezman@MarkDaSpark@Winedavid49 I’ll admit to googling. There is a TY Detmer Heisman winning QB, but I’m not going to guess two back-to-back Ty offerings (but it would be nice!). But the names Murray or Griffin would qualify.
@MarkDaSpark This northern California winery pays great tribute to their Italian heritage with this mixed red offer. even one blend names after an ancient Italian symbol of triumph.
@MarkDaSpark@Winedavid49 Noceto has that laurel wreath running around its labels, or at least some of them. Now to find out whether they have a blend that fits my theory.
@Winedavid49 There’s a Desire Sweet Pink from St. Julian, but hardly seems like something that would be offered here. Then there’s Desire Lines Wine Co. which seems like a stronger possibility.
Good evening. coincidentally, this wine is sourced form a Lodi Vineyard with the same name as one of the most storied golf teachers in the last 30 years.
The story begins here, with Sylvester “SLY” Dusi, my great grandfather who began the Dusi family legacy in Paso Robles in the early 1920’s."
TANGENTIALLY RELATED FACT to help you make conversation over this wine: Star of the Sly Cooper series and one of Sony’s most popular game characters, the eponymous Sly Cooper is a gentleman thief, a la Arsène Lupin, descended from a long line of famous thieves.
@Mark_L@Winedavid49 WVV was SWMBO’s vote. Eola-Amity Hills AVA is mostly west but part of it is slightly south of Salem. Some very fine pinot noirs come from there.
@Mark_L@Winedavid49 that definitely fits the clue.
Also cool that WD is doing direct imports! If you need anybody to come to France on a buying tour I have plenty of stored up time off… Just saying …
@MarkDaSpark Happy 4th of July week! this multi brand long term partner is one of the only folks to pull off this star spangled offer! 3 types! can you name them?
@MarkDaSpark@rjquillin@Winedavid49 Good point…a Riesling, Barbera, Cabernet trio? That’d be unprecedented, I think. But red, white, and blue could be Angel Eis, a red label, and a white label.
@klezman@MarkDaSpark@Winedavid49
The eis (Jana) and Barb (SH white) would be two different, may need to add an InZin (SuperHero) for the third brand.
Did a miss a Cab from somewhere (other label)?
@MarkDaSpark@Winedavid49 Mark Twain once said: “There are no standards of taste in wine… Each man’s own taste is the standard, and a majority vote cannot decide for him or in any slightest degree affect the supremacy of his own standard.”
In the 19th century, after the departure of Queen Isabella II, the parliament chose the Italian prince Amedeo of Savoy to reign in Spain and did so (as Amedeo I) between 1871 and 1873.
@MarkDaSpark Happy Friday. this is a tough one (obscure). but i don’t mean to “rant” but i bet this "first-person tactical hero shooter " would like this wine. (sorry in advance, this may be a stretch).
If it’s the wine I’m labratting, I’m not seeing the connection. And that the word is about the only one that pops up. (Using “first-person tactical hero shooter”)
I guess I’m the guess cluemeister for a while, but didn’t know exactly where to post my clue the first time. Fifty years ago my best friend from the wine industry was making wine from the vineyard planted by the immigrant great grandpa of tonight’s winemaker.
@MarkDaSpark@PeterW
Nope
The only additional clue I could think of would be too much of a giveaway for you! I can say it’s an unexpected variety from this particular source, but not an unusual variety by any means.
@PeterW
But you’re right on time, even without MdS prompting/nagging. That says a lot, and it’s going to be difficult for WD to live up to the bar you’ve now set!
Unless ‘clever little nugget’ was the clue.
That would be very in brand with something WD would do.
@MarkDaSpark@PeterW I didn’t forget that at all! One of my favourite Woot bottlings!
I initially pedantically interpreted it as “this is a style of wine I’ve never made before but could envision myself making”. So I was thinking of things like straw wine or icebox wine or an off-dry Riesling.
Only later did I realise it was about the “see myself” part rather than the type of wine.
@PeterW I feel like this clue is a test for us remembering something you mentioned a long time ago! Pedroncelli is the first one that comes to mind that is both a known Woot/CM winery and was around in the 70s. Also Buena Vista and maybe Kunde?
Otherwise I can only think of rather unlikely offers involving places like BV, Montelena, Dunn, and such.
Aren’t Friday offers generally those that have a limited quantity available. Can’t imaging friends, another Ped offer.
Were I to be really cynical, a Wellington Cellars offer. Don’t think we’ve ever seen one of those, despite the tour stop.
@davirom@klezman@MarkDaSpark@PeterW
True, VJB, but it seems there is also ‘cellars’ stuff that appears to be from them as well, that has caused undue confusion on CT with those that don’t know the difference.
@davirom@MarkDaSpark@PeterW@rjquillin I’ve submitted several corrections to CT to ensure that “Wellington Cellars” is not conflated with the far superior in all respects Wellington Vineyards.
@InFrom@klezman@MarkDaSpark, my wife’s matron of honor also sang at the wedding, with her acapella group. I hadn’t met either David Noyes or Scott Harvey at the time.
I was in a monthly tasting group of. Davis classmates 40 years ago. The host chose the theme, and Kent Rasmussen loved obscure varieties and regions. No one else was exposing us to Michigan Chardonnay or Missouri Norton. Kent took a fair bit of ribbing, because often the most positive comment about a wine might be “interesting”.
So tonight’s wine is not from a well known wine producing state. The first time I had it I hadn’t even been aware that vineyards or wineries existed in that state. To top that, the wine was not only good, but REALLY good! I was shocked; this wine was actually closer in style and quality to its European counterpart than many California versions.
@klezman@MarkDaSpark@PeterW@rjquillin
From what I understand long ago Gruet had some acres of vineyards in New Mexico from which they made some very nice sparklers of which they became well known for. Then a company Precept a washington state conglomerate bought them out and wanted to capitalize on this so they started to use Washington grown grapes so they could make I don’t know exactly but they now make 250 500k cases a year? far more than the original vineyards can produce. Since then they can no longer say it’s a New Mexico wine and it’s labeled American wine. Of course I’m not saying it’s bad just different and kind of sad IMHO.
Ah, just saw that on the main page! Just like when we went on the RPM Lodi/Amador Tour and found out a lot of Lodi grapes go into “California” labeled wines.
@MarkDaSpark@PeterW@rjquillin@ScottW58
But Gruet made that shift quite a long time ago. There was a definite decrease in my enjoyment of their wines after they made that switch. I think they still make a couple NM-based wines, which I’d be curious to try. And I think they use wines from even more states than just WA and NM. Just like a California appellation wine, it can be made with great stuff (like Bedrock CA Syrah) or bulk wine (Charles Shaw).
@Mark_L@MarkDaSpark@Winedavid49 I think WD meant this is another (more or less) auto-buy that he should have had in the mix for when he was enjoying some time off.
So what didn’t we get?
Iron Horse
Noceto
Twisted Oak
Ty
Peterson
Pedroncelli
In 1973, Wayne Rodgers (Mash), James Caan (Godfather), Peter Faulk (Columbo), Jack Webb (Dragnet) and local visionary Herman Schwartz established our vineyard to be the first large scale vineyard on the Central Coast, planting 520 acres. They anticipated the growth of Paso Robles to be another 2,000 acres with 10-15 wineries over the long-term. Paso Robles now stands around 70,000 acres under vine, and over 300 wineries.
@jmdavidson1 I’ve been slacking on posting for a bit. Rest assured, there were two bottles (The Messenger Albarino, and Williams Selyem 2015 Bucher Vineyard).
@msten@Winedavid49 As a Labrat for this one, I didn’t have guess. However, I did do some research on the correspondence between Prima Materia and a philosopher’s stone, and agree that it was a great clue.
Co-founders Ed King III and his father, the late Ed King, Jr., had a vision for the 600-acre parcel of land they discovered in the southern Willamette Valley that was used to grow hay and pasture cattle.
@InFrom@jmdavidson1
Seals & Crofts; and indeed they did. I was touring with them for a few years a couple of years after that hit. I think those dayz in LA took more than a few years off my potential lifetime…
@InFrom@jmdavidson1@rjquillin
I don’t think I’ve ever heard that before (just listened). Pretty cool. They also did a pretty nifty cover of Hello It’s Me.
@InFrom@jmdavidson1@karenhynes
Sadly Jim Seals is no longer with us as of last year.
Do check out ‘Get Closer’ with Carolyn Willis as lead vocalist. She was a fun addition to the '76 tour.
@MarkDaSpark when looking to come up with a clue for this emerging brand i went straight to Rudolph the Red nose reindeer show from our youth. turns out the land was called misfits. i thought it was this.
@rjquillin wrong thread! I kept trying to post on what are you drinking only to keep cancelling. Somehow this is where I ended up in a duplicate posting.
@MarkDaSpark here’s what i got:
The 18.5 acre estate vineyard is situated at 3850 feet above sea level in Agrelo, a sub-district within the Luján de Cuyo appellation of Mendoza
@MarkDaSpark The D-H winery website I located has no white wine listed for sale was the intention of the previous statement. Another “horseshoes and hand grenades” guess.
Why you take wine sites with a grain of salt. I too, saw no whites listed on their website, but that’s what they offer to the general public. But a general search shows the 3 whites.
Thunder is the highest point. Wonder if they thought of this one when they produce these lines of wines. always an absolute hit. and a personal favorite.
Joseph Phelps Vineyards
In the following years (1972-79), Schug selected the site and helped plant Joseph Phelps Vineyards in St. Helena, where he and his family lived at the time. As the Phelps winemaker, Schug bottled the first varietally labeled Syrah in California and Napa Valley’s first ice wine.
It’s past the normal clue tone based on my time zone. Doesn’t matter that I’m 3 hours ahead.
So @WineDavid49 where’s the clue?
I also won’t be able to see the clue until after I land!
@klezman@MarkDaSpark@Winedavid49 Well, “paisano” is Italian for countryman and is a product name of Carlo Rossi with 4 liters widely available for under $20 retail .
Hall was a 1 time visit, IIRC. Wellington, Pedroncelli. Scott Harvey, Corison, & Iron Horse seemed perennial favorites. Kunde, Dry Creek, & St. Supéry were also favorites, among others.
If I had checked in time, I would have gone with Scott Harvey, Kunde, Iron Horse, or Pedroncelli. Those were the ones we ate at (Corison too, but sighting an offer is like Halley’s Comet!).
one of our favorite winery partners up north acquired this property purportedly " on a bluff overlooking the Yakima River". i bet they have an “oldla” built there.
clue? with all due respect to Scotty Harvey, this person show’s up outside his offers to spice up the joint. for that reason alone, i’ll be buying. plus he has a very nice touch indeed in the wine making category. great deal (and participation) coming.
@MarkDaSpark This is some pretty good wine from a small brand you probably have not heard of. but the region? it’s known for being one of the longest ripening seasons in California.
Happy Friday. what a treat tonight. not just a Müller-Thurgau sighting, not just an estate Müller-Thurgau, but a great priced estate Müller-Thurgau. from a trusted source over the years.
@MarkDaSpark Happy Christmas Eve everyone! fitting a long time friend of Casemates is launching on a special occasion such as Christmas. A first time desert offering from her if i’m not mistaken.
@Winedavid49 Would be great to have a Harvest Moon offer seems like such a long time but maybe I missed one. Usually a autobuy for me but last purchase was 4/2021 a Randy Zin…so one can hope
Happy New Year!!!
@Winedavid49
Happy New Year!
47 on his 38th! Witness!
@Winedavid49 King Estates
@msten @Winedavid49
Fat Ass Ranch & Winery?
He’s no Michael Jordan. Talent, yes. Class? Nope.
If you look closely, there is an arrow in the logo
@Winedavid49
Well, there’s …
Nocking Point Wines
The Huntsman Cabernet Sauvignon
Punta de Flechas Corte Argentinian Blend
@Winedavid49
There’s also Arrow Creek Wines and Arrow & Branch (although they are a premium winery).
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Does FedEx have a winery now??
@Winedavid49 We haven’t seen NxNw in a while, and they do have an arrow integrated into their logo…
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark howdy howdy.
clue?
Cassius and Sharpe
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Clay Shannon?
@Mark_L @Winedavid49
But which one? Pistol Grip, Buck Shack, or Urgency?
Or another label from Shannon Ridge (Clay and Angie Shannon are owners).
@Mark_L @Winedavid49
WD says Howdy, howdy
So more
Pistol Grip (western theme label)?
Happy Friday.
Clue? Harvey’s S.O.
@Winedavid49 A Jana offering?
@Mark_L @Winedavid49
but which one, or assortment?
@rjquillin @Winedavid49 The only one offered here was a 2019 Sauvignon Blanc.
@Mark_L @rjquillin @Winedavid49 But the old site had Cathedral and the Riesling, too. Even the Zin once, iirc.
@Mark_L @rjquillin @Winedavid49
Correction: The Scott Harvey Mixed Zins offer here had a “2011 or 2012 Jana” Zin in it.
Mixed Zins offer
@Winedavid49
Clue?
skateboard slang for excited.
@Winedavid49
A return of Stokes’ Ghost Petite Sirah ?
I see there’s a The Stoke wines out of Australia…
@Winedavid49
joakim’s parent.
@Winedavid49 Y. Rousseau?
@Mark_L @Winedavid49
Dang it! Went down the rabbit hole with the NHL player (Ryan), getting Caterina, thus Poundstone Wines from their use of Sangiocomo’s Catarina Vineyard.
Then saw Noah, BB Center and Dad, Yannick!
@Winedavid49
clue?
i bet Di Maria would like another offer from our “goto” winery.
@Winedavid49
Durigutti?
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 The “goto” comment connects with some Peterson offerings.
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Or perhaps Scott Harvey Angel Eis?
@Mark_L @Winedavid49
Thought of those, along with Pedroncelli, but Di Maria is an Argentinian Futbol player.
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark happy friday. clue? Wellington connection.
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Denier-Handal?
@ctmariner @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49
Could be something from David Noyes, but D-H more likely.
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark clue?
This wine is great by any measurement, k?
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 nice clue.
good evening.
i’m grateful to have this winery back again. as good an expression of single vineyard wines (not just Lodi) around.
@Winedavid49 Onesta?
@Winedavid49
Boedecker Cellars or Peterson Winery?
Or Kukeri?
@Winedavid49
Clue? opposite of "Noya " Wayne?
@Winedavid49
Wait, it wasn’t “Yesya”???
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark happy friday! Clue? apparently Fred and Zero Manipulation go hand in hand.
Yay!! Peterson?
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark Might need to wait for the SF game to end.
@Mark_L @MarkDaSpark good point.
two previous offers combined for another great value deal offer. (zin and cab)
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Seems to be a lot of possibilities, but Kunde would work.
@Mark_L @Winedavid49
Pedroncelli?
Scott Harvey?
@Mark_L @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49
Scott Harvey Cab???
@Mark_L @rjquillin @Winedavid49
SH Zin & Jana Cab. But not to be …
Ivory and Burt
@msten
Good call!
Harvest Moon
@Savagesam that might actually get me to bite. The week before Berserker Day, no less.
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark good evening. Clue?
Spittin’ Image
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 About all I can come up with is Stolen Identity or Replica.
@Mark_L @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49
There’s a Wirra Wirra Dead Ringer…and a Brave New Wine Doppleganger.
@Mark_L @Winedavid49
Good call!
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark clue? well this is a change of pace. will probably get there in time for Super Bowl Sunday a.m. tailgate!
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 beer?!
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 beer would have been better
@klezman @Winedavid49
Silly Canadian!
Cider, Mead, or Mimosa (maybe Sake?)
Hmmm, didn’t we get Beer Kits on the old site?
Happy Friday. clue? it’s not just for ports, that’s the message!
@Winedavid49
St. Amant Winery Speakeasy Red Blend?
@Winedavid49
Well, Dorina Lindemann Touriga Nacional (or her Tinta Barroca) or Vidigal Vinho Tinto?
Or
Opta Tinto?
Lindemann & Vidigal have both been here before. Opta is also from the Elixir Group like the other 2.
@Winedavid49
“the message” … I see what you did there!
@Winedavid49 nicely done
A tinta cao bottling? Hmmm. Could be interesting. A few seen on rws.
good evening.
clue?
3 vowels 4 letters. great wine.
@Winedavid49
Daou?
@Winedavid49
Avivo?
A, i, o
A, v, i, o
@Winedavid49 ioTA?
@Winedavid49
Pareto’s
a, e, o
p, r, t, s
If you separate them …
But most likely Daou
@karenhynes @Winedavid49
Humm…
@karenhynes @rjquillin @Winedavid49
Not like they haven’t been here before.
Buenos dais,
this region shares its name with the river flowing through its center.
@Winedavid49 perhaps a Malbec from Mendoza?
@msten @Winedavid49
Hmmm, Mendoza river only irrigates around “… 17 percent of the Mendoza vineyards, and about 360 wineries.” …
Loire?
Rhóne? (Maybe Domaine La Loyane?)
Douro?
Mosel?
@MarkDaSpark @msten @Winedavid49
Are any of those Spanish speaking?
@MarkDaSpark @msten @rjquillin @Winedavid49 I’m not sure the clue is in Spanish either. Buenos dais?
@InFrom @MarkDaSpark @msten @rjquillin @Winedavid49
@InFrom @MarkDaSpark @msten @rjquillin oops
@InFrom @karenhynes @MarkDaSpark @msten @rjquillin @Winedavid49 looks like Douro I guess…
@InFrom @karenhynes @klezman @msten @rjquillin @Winedavid49
I forgot to check between the Maipo and Colchagua valleys!
@winedavid49
Seems like there is some slacking in asking for a clue…
@rjquillin Thanks for the nudge.
New Beginnings loosely translated
@Winedavid49
Just crickets;
strange
@rjquillin @Winedavid49 I was at a work dinner but if I hadn’t been it’s conceivable I’d have guessed De Novo!
@rjquillin oops …
Yesterday was a weird day. Grubhub delivered dinner on time, but the App showed the driver elsewhere for 30 minutes!
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark another croaker of an offer from this new (relatively) casemates favorite.
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Frog’s Leap. If the Petite Syrah is offered, my moratorium will be lifted.
@danandlisa @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 It seems like Frog’s Tooth is what has been here.
@Mark_L @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 You are correct. It has been a long week.
good evening. Clue? Viansa use to be the first winery on 121.
@Winedavid49
Ram’s Gate Winery?
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Either that or Roche Carneros.
@Mark_L @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Roche would be a great offer… Just saying…
@winedavid49
only 90 some odd minutes left, and counting down, for you to submit a clue for the Rats to review…
@rjquillin crap, my mind told
Me on several occasions today that I offered up a clue and damn I spaced on it! My bad!
Winedavid “59” may have to start delegating if this keeps up!
Apologies
@Winedavid49 at least we ~have~ rats on this one!
Maybe rjquillin asking for a clue was the clue. After all he is an “insider “
@msten
unpaid Volunteer Moderator, yup;
insider, like I know what’s going on and coming up, nope, not at all.
@msten @rjquillin haha, i remember that!
not messing around today.
clue?
I’m hear to tell the tale, this is not made in Kentucky.
One of those Bourbon Barrel offers I don’t totally recall?
@rjquillin 1,000 Stories (or Buck Shack)
Perhaps Barrel Burner Cabernet Sauvignon
@Winedavid49 … What? No early clue?
good evening. i know i need to give a clue, if just to subdue or quiet the masses.
@Winedavid49
I guess I need to start setting a 2nd timer to remind me to check back!
Hmmm, Wonder how long a delay for a clue if @Winedavid49 is watching the "Super"bowl?
@MarkDaSpark haha! quick clue (before i go back to the game). “proximity to the Atacama”. i’ll give another clue if needed.
@Winedavid49
Elqui Wines
@Winedavid49
Looks like Tabali Wines are on the north of the Atacama.
So either one from Elixir Group (Elqui) or one from One Vine Wine Group.
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 A search showed information about Limari Valley that said:
@Mark_L @Winedavid49
But most wines from outside the US here have been through Elixir or One Vine.
Happy Valentines day!
seems appropriate to have this goto OR value white come around again.
@Winedavid49 Maybe another Anne Amie offering?
@Mark_L @Winedavid49 or King’s Estate
@danandlisa @Mark_L @Winedavid49
Or Pedroncelli Friends?
Although it might be Scott & Jana’s One Last Kiss, if it had been here before.
@danandlisa @Mark_L @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49
methinks something from OR, not CA
@danandlisa @Mark_L @rjquillin @Winedavid49
Good point on that! Forget how tricky WD can be.
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark Friday clues are the hardest. but here goes. sound like a french villa where the star of “what’s up Doc” (it holds up if you watch it again, very funny).
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 O’Neill Vintners?
@Winedavid49
Sound like?
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49
Yes and some more of the Anne Amie, please!
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49
Chateau bugs?
Maison Barbera ? Or maison Hannah?
I doubt any of those are actually wineries!
@klezman @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 There is a Bannister Wines, but I don’t see any french villa connection.
@klezman Maison Barbra, maybe, but you’re
barking up the wrong tree with the cartoon ideas.
My guess: Babs Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir.
Although there’s no French villa in that, so nvm.
@InFrom @Mark_L @klezman
I thought Chateau, but forgot Maison. And I searched using both stars, and their character names.
But Château Saint Barbe didn’t pop up. At least InFrom had Maison Barbra!
Edit: I thought Bugs too at first, but realized WD was talking about the movie.
I did see a Shaqteau O’Neal reference!
@InFrom @klezman @Mark_L
Interesting:
Château Barbanau shows up (really down the list) if you use
Château Sainte Barbe shows up if you add “France” to it, 2nd result.
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark clue? founding fathers Jefferson and Patrick.
Thomas Henry? The Cab was offered before
@Winedavid49
@Winedavid49
Table Tennis that interesting?
always feel lucky to snag a dose of these small lot gems.
not for sissies. pairs with Wolf steak that say.
@Winedavid49
Villa Wolf?
@Winedavid49
Duh! Raised by Wolves
@Winedavid49
Also Grey Wolf Cellars, Wolf Family Vineyards, and Lost Wolf Wine Company.
Still trying to see if “dose” fits in somewhere.
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49
bubbles?
But that doesn’t fit with the PS
@Winedavid49
Small Lot? Da!
The rest of the clue ???
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Not for sissies -> high alcohol! That’s Swilly’s calling card!
@klezman @Winedavid49
Is it?
Can’t find him saying it.
@klezman @MarkDaSpark am i the only one who remembers him saying his wines pairs with wolf steak?
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Swilly didn’t have to say anything. His wines are almost always high alcohol and he talks about them in proof sometimes. When you say Zeppelin, I think high alc. So to me that was the clue, fwiw.
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark Clue? this wine is not what it says it is on the label. but still, it’s a darn good value for the price.
hi everyone. Clue?
this wine comes from a hill top town with a clock tower.
@Winedavid49
A wine from Montalcino, Val d’Orcia, Tuscany, Italy?
Or other Tuscany wine?
Lazzeretti Rosso di Montalcino DOC ?
@Winedavid49
Or other Lazzeretti wine?
Or Scopone Brunello Di Montalcino Riserva DOCG?
Or a repeat of Col D’Orcia Brunello di Montalcino?
@Winedavid49 Bueller? Bueller?
@MarkDaSpark those are all close, but not the actual area mentioned.
@Winedavid49
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark sorry, just came back from the snow on the foothills!!!
Clue?
This “bunch” is giving us another set of alternative to wine offerings.
@Winedavid49
Stoke’s Ghost ?
Lost Eden?
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49
Perhaps a mead offering?
@Winedavid49
clue? Peter is the son. So glad to have them back!
@Winedavid49 Kukeri?
@klezman @Winedavid49
Or diabolically … Peterson Winery
There’s also Jim Barry Wines
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Thinking about this more, isn’t it maybe Peter Mondavi?
@klezman @Winedavid49
Maybe
@Winedavid49
Why do I keep wondering if Yannick’s dad was a Peter (or a Pierre) ?
Y. Rousseau’s Son of a Butcher?
@klezman @Winedavid49
On second thought, highly doubtful. I don’t think Mondavi has been on here for WD to be “glad to have them back”.
@klezman @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49
There were a few Mondavi offers on the old site.
@klezman @Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark @rjquillin @Winedavid49 maybe it’s one of the other Mondavi kids that owns one of the big brands we see here a lot. Can’t remember the name at the moment.
@klezman @rjquillin @Winedavid49
Peter is Tom’s son
Good clue!
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark clue? this winery has really found its slot. Hitting its stride.
@Winedavid49
Comanche Cellars (named for horse)?
Malacara Wines (Argentinian, also named for a Horse)?
Iron Horse?
Red Mare Wines?
@Winedavid49
Ok, I can see “slot” can apply to music. But … “Hitting it’s stride”???
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 To me, “getting in the groove” conveys the same general idea as finding one’s slot or hitting one’s stride.
@InFrom @Winedavid49
Maybe, but stride indicates some type of running/walking. Thus the horse thought.
In the groove also applies to other activities as well.
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 You forgot about stride piano… Not that it has anything to do with the clue.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stride_(music)#
@InFrom @Winedavid49
But that would be Piano Abuse! (Hitting it )
And more obscure than usual!
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark good evening. clue? old opus one.
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 I have no idea where to go with that
@klezman @MarkDaSpark winemaker
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 now it’s Tim Mondavi? Doubt we getting continuum here…
@klezman @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49
That was my first thought (on the second clue)…also doubtful, even for a Friday offer.
@karenhynes @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Manies isn’t mentioned on their website! No fair!
@karenhynes @klezman @Winedavid49
@karenhynes @klezman @Winedavid49
Even searching using Cellarmaster, Assistant Winemaker, or Wine Making Team doesn’t show him.
Only his website says it!
Well, and Wine Searcher for his wines!
@karenhynes @klezman @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Or, the write up from the previous offer here on CM:
@davirom @karenhynes @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 I dunno - cellar master != Winemaker
@karenhynes @klezman @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Wasn’t George Santos the cellarmaster there?
Fair enough…
on to next clue (please!)?
Dry Stream is the region.
@Winedavid49 OK, Arroyo Seco. After that – I’ve got nothing.
@InFrom @Winedavid49 agreed on Arroyo Seco. Probably Schied then.
@Winedavid49
Scotto Cellars (V-14)
or
Scott Family Estate (leaning towards them the most)
or
Bernardus Winery
(And could be Scheid as @klezman wrote)
(But spelled correctly )
@klezman @Winedavid49
Well, if I had checked on Friday instead of playing poker … I would have been right!
Instead, somehow missed it was for Friday’s offer!
@Winedavid49
It is a Sunday evening…
@rjquillin @markdaspark
“Love me do” I think it was…
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49
There is a Beatle Winery?
Or Beatle Juice…
@MarkDaSpark @rjquillin @Winedavid49 There’s a Fences Winery run by some some with the name of Lennon.
@Mark_L @MarkDaSpark @rjquillin
Lyric
@Mark_L @MarkDaSpark @rjquillin @Winedavid49 “Someone Like You” winery? “I’ll Always Be True” winery? Oh well, we’ll find out in a few minutes.
@Mark_L @MarkDaSpark @rjquillin @Winedavid49 It was their first single, which turned them into shooting stars?
@InFrom @Mark_L @rjquillin @Winedavid49
Ah! Bad Company song!
@Mark_L @MarkDaSpark @rjquillin @Winedavid49 Perfect clue for all those Bad Company fans out there…
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark it’s about time for him to show up. and i usually don’t have to give a clue. loving this next offer.
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 WineSmith?
@Mark_L @Winedavid49
Got to be! He usually lets his peeps know before launch!
@Mark_L @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 I guess WD has laid down the law!
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark love that one. any new?
i get nostalgic about this FARM winery up north.
early adopters for us and distinctly good wine. and at the Casemates price??
i haven’t checked, but this may be our first (set) of blends with them.
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49
Art + Farm?
@klezman @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 I gotta go with Gard.
@InFrom @klezman @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49
I agree!
@InFrom @karenhynes @klezman @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49
Of the seven, we’ve had three mixed offers from Gård.
One was a true blend and the other two CS with only minor blending.
@Winedavid49 sheesh! A new meme?
@MarkDaSpark i know, i’m just a little miscreant!
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 If only you could mean Dirty & Rowdy…
@klezman @Winedavid49
Hoi Polloi, their Taste of Evil and/or Illicit wines?
Idle Cellars?
@klezman @Winedavid49
Then again, a little miscreant could also be known as a “Juvenile Delinquent” … aka biker gang.
But I don’t think bikers ride Durigutti’s!
But I keep thinking a Durigutti offer.
@Winedavid49
Ah … that type of “little miscreant” !!!
@Winedavid49
Just a little reminder!
@MarkDaSpark
Oh good! The clock in my car will finally be right again!
@karenhynes @MarkDaSpark lol so true!
@karenhynes @Winedavid49
@karenhynes @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Obligatory mention of: “it’s saving! Not savings!”
@karenhynes @klezman @MarkDaSpark
i remember having trouble giving a clue the first time this label came on. and i can’t glean anything from the Oscar’s.
here goes:
first name Carrie, last name Chuck.
great wine quality mate.
@karenhynes @klezman @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49
Barry Brothers previously. Jim Barry Wines
@Winedavid49
Maybe a clue before you get absorbed in the Oscars?
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark clue? it’s as if Euell Gibbons and Jaques Cousteau created a brand.
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49
I could imagine IH Ocean Reserve, but I won’t.
@rjquillin @Winedavid49
Hmmmm … interesting.
I’d say Sea Grape Cellars, if they shipped to more than California and Florida!
Seafall?
Sea Slopes?
@rjquillin @Winedavid49
Mira Winery?
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Sea Change wines?
@MarkDaSpark @rjquillin @Winedavid49 Scherrer Calypso Vineyard syrah?
@davirom @MarkDaSpark @rjquillin Ever ate a…?
@davirom @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49
Allman Brothers; Eat a Peach
Just tossing a lawn dart
@davirom @MarkDaSpark @rjquillin @Winedavid49 Ghost Pines?
@winedavid49
Well done!
@Winedavid49 @rjquillin Yes indeed!
Forgot it was Pine Tree and not rocks (SNL skit? Based on his Grape Nuts commercials.)
@Winedavid49
@Winedavid49
@Winedavid49 … 16 minutes left!
@Winedavid49
So, NCAA March Madness? Hiking? Driving? Visiting?
Or ?..
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49
Flooded?
Power outage?
@MarkDaSpark @rquillin a combination of double authentication requirements on salesforce and day drinking while watching March Madness.
i’m contrite, but a pretty sound excuse, really.
@rquillin @Winedavid49
You Paddock Peasant you!
@Winedavid49 … hopefully no delays tonight!
And since you missed it …
@MarkDaSpark
I’m back!
Need these two to open. Trips to win!!
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Two Jakes of Diamonds perhaps?
@MarkDaSpark @msten @Winedavid49 My brain did not go in the direction of poker…good call.
@klezman @msten @Winedavid49
Probably, although it’s Jacks or better to open.
So possibly Three Wine Men (Kings) ?
@klezman @MarkDaSpark @msten @Winedavid49
Meeker would work; it’s been awhile.
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark the largely imported grape in tonight’s offer reminds me of a description of science fiction beam.
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Tractor Beam Trebbiano
@msten how on earth did you know to look for that one??
@msten @Winedavid49
Well, if WD ever got Tablas Creek Vineyard Picardan or if Acquiesce Winery and Vineyards offered it …
Or if there was a lot of Extradimensional Wine Co. Yeah! Teleport Gris (Light Red)
Both highly unlikely.
Since WD hasn’t Liked @msten’s post yet …
@msten @Winedavid49
Hmmm, phaser?
Val Beylie “Plaisir” from Elixir Wine Group?
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49
How does Gamay do that, exactly?
@klezman @MarkDaSpark I didn’t say it was a good clue.
“Gamma ray “
@klezman @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49
Only one problem, I can think of…
Gamma rays are the real deal. I used to build instruments and detectors for them that are still in orbit.
@klezman @rjquillin @Winedavid49
Well, it is from Obvious Wines
And remember “The Incredible Hulk”?
“The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds” (science! The younger daughter’s project).
So while very real, they have been used in multiple scifi books/movies/TV plots.
@klezman @rjquillin @Winedavid49
Oh, and Lasers are real too, and were also used in many Science Fiction plots.
So, we just didn’t think outside the box!
Probably because we don’t normally think of Gamay wines.
@klezman Totally made up. But if someone produces a Tractor Beam Trebbiano I’ll be obliged to buy a case.
@msten Well played
@Winedavid49
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark Another great deal from this goto “daily drinker” winery and et cetera , et cetera , et cetera.
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 A number of past wineries fit. Ballard Lane, Ivory & Burt, de Négoce, Shannon Ranch, …
@Mark_L @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49
King Estates
I almost never get a movie reference!
@klezman @Mark_L @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Yul be glad you guessed this one!
@klezman @Mark_L @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Well done
@InFrom @klezman @Mark_L @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 clever
@InFrom @klezman @Mark_L @msten @Winedavid49
Clever clue, but showing your age!
@InFrom @Mark_L @MarkDaSpark @msten @Winedavid49 si the younger guy getting it correct means what, then?
@InFrom @klezman @MarkDaSpark @msten @Winedavid49 For one thing, it means I don’t watch enough movies to even know that there was a movie reference involved.
@klezman @Mark_L @MarkDaSpark @msten @Winedavid49 Movie, shmoovie! (Disclaimer, I am not old enough to have seen this production!)
@InFrom @klezman @Mark_L @msten @Winedavid49
That “check engine” light is going to come on very soon!
@InFrom @klezman @Mark_L @MarkDaSpark @msten yes, winedavid49 is becoming more of an unassociated nick name by the year!
Clue for tonight? this style wine is not a spumante. more gentle.
@Winedavid49 Frizzante is considered lighter than spumante.
@Mark_L @Winedavid49
Prosecco seems to be considered a “Frizzante"
@Mark_L @Winedavid49
Sôttal Frisante Rosé Sparkling Wine has been up before, as well as Vino Noceto’s Frivolo. Also, IIRC, Anne Amie’s Amrita was considered Frizzante.
But all those were in with other wines.
Maybe a return of Valdo Ca’ Del Cino Prosecco?
@Winedavid49
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark Sonoma film festival movie ran long! I met Karen Allen!
Clue? Nothing opaque here. Right in front of your nose!
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Seems Obvious.
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark Matias can party.
@Winedavid49 tch, tch, tch I knew I should have used the Obvious/Obscure meme!
Matías Riccitelli The Party Malbec
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark hey now! clue? tilling comes to mind.
you’re an all-star
@Winedavid49
Broken Earth!
@mediocrebot what is the trigger for the “all-star” response?
@davirom The bot’s version of rick-rolling?
@davirom @InFrom
hey now!
just testing
you’re an all-star
@davirom @InFrom
Yup, that was it…
awesome
it seems is out of favor.
clue?
Actresses Penny and Gina.
@Winedavid49 Marshall and Lollobrigida Cellars?
@InFrom @Winedavid49 yeah but WD has never been known for his spelling accuracy
@ Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark clue? Marine- Mammal -Center
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49
Iron horse? Specifically, ocean reserve
@joe139 @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49
I think I’ve seen that one offered elsewhere lately too…
@joe139 @Winedavid49
I can see why we ALL thought it would be Ocean Reserve!
Wonder if my $15 coupon that expires tomorrow will work since today’s offer won’t ship to IL?
@stever52 good question! I shoulda used mine by now.
@jmdavidson1 @stever52
Wasted mine as well; sigh…
@rjquillin @stever52 is there really a statute of limitations on those coupons? State law should be that there are no expiration dates!!!
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark
Clue?
aka McGuire street
@Winedavid49
Please sir, can we have more?
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49
Baker Lane?
@karenhynes @Winedavid49
Tricky!
Tobey Mcguire ( his G is not capitalized!)
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark clue? made by a winery At the foot of mount Cetona…
@Winedavid49
Couldn’t be DAOU, right?
DAOU buys in Tuscany
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49
Barbanera?
@karenhynes @Winedavid49
Colle Nero Tra Di Noi?
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark clue? VERY excited about this offer. a long par 5 from my house and the walk would pass by vineyards owned by the grower mentioned on these bottles.
please tell your friends about this one. i consider the grower as friends.
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49
Schug?
@karenhynes @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49
This, or a nearly identical, clue has been used before, I think; but my grey matter is leaking out so I have no additional recollection.
@karenhynes @Winedavid49
Maybe … but WD doesn’t say the Par 5 is to the Winery, just that the “walk” would pass the vineyards the “grower” owns.
Durrell Vineyards is the grower?
So maybe Saxon Brown?
Dunstan Wines?
@karenhynes @rjquillin @Winedavid49
I know! Ditto!
@karenhynes @MarkDaSpark @rjquillin @Winedavid49 you should have a doctor check out that leaky grey matter…
@karenhynes @klezman @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Well, I do get it dealt with generally once a year, except during the recent madness.
First Sangiacomo sourced wine to my knowledge.
@Winedavid49 What is the vineyard just behind your property?
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark clue? espanol en Lodi
@Winedavid49
Vino Noceto?
Edit: Shoot, they’re in Amador, not Lodi.
@Winedavid49
Cabana Winery?
Bokisch Vineyards (All Spanish Varietals)?
@Mark_L @Winedavid49
Ha! Beat you by a minute!
Riaza Wines (craft, so low probability) ?
Anaya Vineyards?
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 I saw yours after I posted and deleted my repetition of Bokisch.
@Mark_L @Winedavid49
You didn’t need to. It was close … it’s happened to me while trying to get it right and someone beat me to it.
Great minds and all!
Riaza
@msten
You beat me, but they’re small craft wines.
@MarkDaSpark agreed. 1600 cases a year is small.
@Winedavid49
Haapy Easter! Wine clue?
Happy Easter. Congrats to Jon Rahm winning the Masters!
clue?
“Mountain” Rushmore winery alert!
@Winedavid49
Scott in da house???
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark clue? well it ain’t " Short Chevy". haha, i crack myself up!
@Winedavid49
That was a good one!
Maybe a Longchase cab?
@msten Sounds like WD’s sense of humour
@msten
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark A post-Passover leavened wine??
@MarkDaSpark good evening. NBA playoffs starting. we’ll see who is the Greatest Champion.
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Blech. Not the Raptors after their choke last night.
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49
Russell Winery Syrah
@Winedavid49
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark Obviously he is otherwise engaged.
@danandlisa @MarkDaSpark
Way past engagement; married loooooong ago!
@Winedavid49
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark Sorry, tennis went to 3 sets.
clue? wet sprockets
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Frog’s Tooth.A long shot.
@danandlisa @Winedavid49
Why? They’ve been here many times before.
Toad Hollow Vineyards in Healdsburg?
@danandlisa @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49
Well done.
Good afternoon. Clue? these wines always make some Noyes !
@Winedavid49 David Noyes seems too obvious.
@Mark_L @Winedavid49
Denier-Handal
@Winedavid49
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark sorry got caught up with high maintenance elderly care environment. I apologize but I have to pass tonight…
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 I can’t tell if that’s a clue!
Hope everything worked out okay
@klezman @MarkDaSpark wasn’t. We good. Just that era. Back on track tomorrow. Sorry.
@klezman @Winedavid49
No problem. Hope everyone is fine.
@klezman @MarkDaSpark
And I suck at delegating
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark ok then. Here we go.
clue?
At the crossroads of 4 corners and 4 historic wineries, Luigi Bosca, Baldini, and Lagarde,…
@Winedavid49
Ok, now you’re just phoning it in …
Bodega Calle
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark happy Sunday. it’s always a great day to celebrate when we roll out this goto. this time with a rose’ bent.
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Maybe a Gruet Sparkling Rose?
@Mark_L @Winedavid49
Probably, but Jana (Scott Harvey Wines) also has a Sparkling Rosè
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 As does Iron Horse, but it seems like they have been here more recently than Gruet.
@Mark_L @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49
Plus, Gruet rhymes with “great day” from the clue!
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark clue? these birds of prey that i’ve seen are white. go figure.
@Winedavid49
Kynsi Winery? (Barn Owl on label)
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 No, but spoiler alert, it is a great bottle of wine.
@danandlisa @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Something from White Hawk Vineyard? Larry makes a great Syrah from there, as do many others.
@klezman @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Sorry, but no.
@danandlisa @klezman @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49
There are a lot of wineries using falconry (falcons can range in color from white to dark brown)…
Hawley, Bouchaine??
@karenhynes @klezman @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Not yet.
@danandlisa @karenhynes @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Probably not Thirsty Owl Wine, then…seems too cheap.
@karenhynes @klezman @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Nope.
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Aren’t peregrines white, but need to work off “figure”. Ahh, a long lost pallet of R2 (squared) Peregrine Pinot Noir.
@MarkDaSpark @msten @Winedavid49 No.
@msten @Winedavid49 @danandlisa @klezman @karenhynes
Falcon Nest Vineyard and Winery?
Peregrine Wines (NZ)?
@karenhynes @klezman @MarkDaSpark @msten @Winedavid49 No, unless my lab rat bottle was mistakenly sent for later. It is very tasty.
@danandlisa @karenhynes @klezman @msten @Winedavid49
Uncaged by Z Alexander Brown?
Owl Ridge Wines?
No.
@danandlisa
Can you give us another hint?
@MarkDaSpark I have to think that Alice told me the wrong night. It is yours and mine favorite varietal and I hope it is the right price, as it was a great bottle. I would have hinted more beachy less hawky.
@danandlisa
Oh, Black Kite
Sorry everyone, Alice gave me the wrong night. I will post once it is live.
@danandlisa So you’re not a chard-head?
@danandlisa @InFrom I don’t know about them, but Mark’s favourite is PS last I checked.
@danandlisa @InFrom @klezman
Yup!
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark well, Clark was here earlier so maybe he’s got something coming up tonight.
@klezman @MarkDaSpark
True, but Clark was summoned…not a spontaneous appearance.
@MarkDaSpark just another blatant offer.
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49
Obvious Wines? (but they were just here a month or so ago…)
@karenhynes @Winedavid49
True, but I think we’ve had others as well that were that quick too.
It was a Friday offer, so this could just be a quickie to make room.
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark only a day and clue late with this one.
@MarkDaSpark @rjquillin what do you mean?
tonight’s clue? the best Knick scorer of all time? i think so. also a goto value white provider for us.
@rjquillin @Winedavid49
I think he meant “blatant offer” was an “obvious” clue for the 1 day offer.
I’ll take Bernard King Estates for 400 Alex, since there isn’t a Patrick Ewing Winery
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark Steph Curry is a god. on to the clue.
Agricultural Projects!
@Winedavid49
Obvious … no, wait, that 2 offers ago!
Meadowcroft?
Farmstrong?
Bent Press?
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Art+Farm? (Just happened to open a cab tonight.)
@Mark_L @Winedavid49
So obscure clue then!
@Mark_L @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49
ehhh, not so much, considering we’ve see another vintage of this not long ago
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark howdy, clue?
can the term urban winery and Lodi coexist?
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Might have to pour a glass of Moscato or Rose, relax in my Cabana and think about the clue.
@Winedavid49
Ivory & Burt?
CULT Wines?
Van Ruiten Family Winery?
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark
@MarkDaSpark Sorry! got pulled.
Very excited about this early adopter winery! He doesn’t come in spikes high, but he does make great wine!!
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Maybe a Ty offering?
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Great clue for a Tigers fan.
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark happy cinco de mayo!
clue?
this recent “goto” winery has an estate vineyard not named after a Heisman winning Big 12 quarterback. but it could have been.
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Is that Peterson Bradford Mountain? I suppose I could google it but what fun would that be?
@klezman @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 I’ll admit to googling. There is a TY Detmer Heisman winning QB, but I’m not going to guess two back-to-back Ty offerings (but it would be nice!). But the names Murray or Griffin would qualify.
@klezman @Mark_L @MarkDaSpark quality guess though.
@Winedavid49
Posting tonight’s clue on behalf of WineDavid: Italian for early “Mount Rushmore” winery.
@arianaWCC Pedroncelli?
@arianaWCC Good to see you step up and cover.
@Winedavid49. @arianaWCC
@Winedavid49. @arianaWCC
Sorry this came through so late! And bear with me…I’m not a clue expert like WD.
Malmesbury Shale & Table Mountain Sandstone
@arianaWCC are there rats?
@Winedavid49, @arianaWCC
@MarkDaSpark
Unusually two countries represented on this offer. A lot of South America covered!
@Winedavid49
Wayra by Calyptra Argentina and 1 from Calyptra Chile?
@Winedavid49, @arianaWCC
@MarkDaSpark @arianaWCC
oh i see, now you want Ariana to be the clue courier! (that was a clue).
@arianaWCC @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Don’t shoot The Messenger!
@Winedavid49, @arianaWCC
@MarkDaSpark This northern California winery pays great tribute to their Italian heritage with this mixed red offer. even one blend names after an ancient Italian symbol of triumph.
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Noceto has that laurel wreath running around its labels, or at least some of them. Now to find out whether they have a blend that fits my theory.
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Hmm, on closer inspection, that might just be an olive wreath.
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Prima Materia?
@MarkDaSpark @InFrom @ctmariner next clue: “4 horses…”
@ctmariner @InFrom @Winedavid49
Great clues!
If only I’d remembered to check back 2 hours ago!
Just gonna say would love to see a Noceto offer!
@dawnlac me too!
Good Day!
Great to welcome this winery!
like digging for a pot of gold, eh Neil?
@Winedavid49
I’ll throw out a first guess…Young’s Vineyard.
@karenhynes @Winedavid49
Hmmm, a new winery …
Sleight O’Hand? (Neil Patrick Harris)
Or possibly from South Africa?
Rainbows End Merlot - (Neil Pendock)
@karenhynes @Winedavid49
Just Rainbow’s End … not saying it’s a Merlot
@Winedavid49 Well played
Neil finds wine is in Sonoma County so it’s a new winery to CM from that area. Thinking…
@losthighwayz
He was there. He’s now down in the LA Area
Clue?
this is a unique offering tonight. it’s a style that reminds me of a shrieking Brando (or Baldwin for a time… ).
@Winedavid49 There’s a Desire Sweet Pink from St. Julian, but hardly seems like something that would be offered here. Then there’s Desire Lines Wine Co. which seems like a stronger possibility.
Hope it’s not Stella (as in Streetcar Named Desire)
@davirom Here’s the clip.
@davirom
Stella Rosa Italian Pinot Grigio was here last year.
So another Stella Rosa offer.
@Winedavid49, @arianaWCC
@MarkDaSpark @arianawcc very excited about this new winery. this wine is so good it may just ward off evil spirits!
@arianaWCC @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49
Hmmmm…lots of rather pricey options…
Let’s start with some Talisman?
Good evening. coincidentally, this wine is sourced form a Lodi Vineyard with the same name as one of the most storied golf teachers in the last 30 years.
@Winedavid49
Ledbetter Family Vineyards?
Avivo vermentino Le(a)dbetter vineyard. Or Syrah, or Sangiovese
@msten
More than likely.

@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 I Dream of Mount Eden. Domaine Eden would be wonderful too.
@MarkDaSpark @msten @Winedavid49
We had an offer from Lost Eden a while back…from Georgia (the country, not the state). Possible return??
@karenhynes @msten @Winedavid49
Doh! Wish … lol
Clue? well the parent company goes very well with Perrins.

@Winedavid49
South Salem hills …mmmmmm
@Winedavid49 Willamette Valley Vineyards has appeared here.
@Mark_L @Winedavid49
A return of Sass Winery?
Or more Duck Pond Cellars?
@Mark_L @Winedavid49 WVV was SWMBO’s vote. Eola-Amity Hills AVA is mostly west but part of it is slightly south of Salem. Some very fine pinot noirs come from there.
@davirom @Mark_L @Winedavid49
Sass had a 24 hour sale last October here …
One of these days, @Winedavid49 will remember he has to “like” the correct answer each time!
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark Kosta sighting? rare indeed!
@Winedavid49
Kosta Browne?
(At least I did remember to check back here!)
@Winedavid49
I knew I should have asked for a 2nd clue!
Kosta was only half of it!
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 like we’d get Kosta Browne! I was trying to remember his other labels.
@klezman @MarkDaSpark yea, glad to have gotten this one!
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark Clue? Always got the target with this wine!

@karenhynes do we smell a Rat?
@rjquillin
Nah. I’ve temporarily paused my rattus status (due to unreliable scheduling issues for the summer).
@karenhynes @rjquillin Due to technical difficulties, my bottle of this wine, whatever it is, is still on its way. Expect a very late lab rat report.

Maison Latour?
@dawnlac @karenhynes @Mark_L @MarkDaSpark @rjquillin @Winedavid49 ummm château Latour is not the same as Maison Latour. And as great as WD is I don’t think we’re getting a first growth Bordeaux here.
@dawnlac @karenhynes @klezman @Mark_L @rjquillin @Winedavid49
Aren’t they related?
So wouldn’t it be possible he might get some grapes from there?
@dawnlac @karenhynes @Mark_L @MarkDaSpark @rjquillin @Winedavid49 get WD on it!

@rjquillin happy Father’s Day!
Clue? Philo Fav.
@rjquillin @Winedavid49 Y. Rousseau?
@rjquillin @Winedavid49 Brutocao Cellars and Handley have been offered. The former more often and more recent.
@Winedavid49
Happy Father’s Day WD!
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark Clue? Fighting Bob!!
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 La Follette would fit.

@Mark_L @MarkDaSpark sorry meant to add another somewhat famous person who was at one time a butcher. Got pulled.
@Mark_L @Winedavid49
Was going to ask for another clue, but it was only 5 minutes left. Doh!
BTW, slaughterhouse workers =/= butcher
@Winedavid49
Good evening. tonight’s offer’s got my finger prints all over it. D.I… (not part of the clue, just some self disclosure)
Hard to find 2015 nowadays from (now part of the clue) Cru Bourgeois. and this label features a beautiful deer on the label.
@Winedavid49 Château Bois Mondont Saint-Germain?
@Mark_L @Winedavid49 that definitely fits the clue.
Also cool that WD is doing direct imports! If you need anybody to come to France on a buying tour I have plenty of stored up time off… Just saying …
@Winedavid49
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark good evening. Clue?
Surprisingly not a squeegee.
@Winedavid49
Dusted Valley?
@MarkDaSpark clue #2
Brand of
@Winedavid49
@Winedavid49
@Winedavid49
@Winedavid49
@Mark_L @markdaspark
Crap, I keep thinking I already gave it. My apologies. These two entities have come together to make a great Granache
@Mark_L @MarkDaSpark
One of them is a fantastic pitanque player, fyi.
@Mark_L @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Not the SonomaBouliste???!!!
@InFrom @Mark_L @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 with Noyes? Or maybe Handal?
@InFrom @Mark_L @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 that was my other guess, but I didn’t see the link. This winemaker play pétanque too?
@Winedavid49
Someone wanted a new meme …
@MarkDaSpark
Happy Friday.!
Another great white QPR offer from this winery.
I’ve always felt Chrissy was the best. But many think this person had more influence. Not Martina*
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49
I’m going with King Estate as a first proposal.
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark Happy 4th of July week! this multi brand long term partner is one of the only folks to pull off this star spangled offer! 3 types! can you name them?
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49
Could easily be a Scott Harvey offer
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 If you hadn’t said multi-brand I might have guessed Iron Horse.
Sounds maybe like Precept but no idea which combo.
@MarkDaSpark @rjquillin @Winedavid49 Good point…a Riesling, Barbera, Cabernet trio? That’d be unprecedented, I think. But red, white, and blue could be Angel Eis, a red label, and a white label.
@klezman @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49
The eis (Jana) and Barb (SH white) would be two different, may need to add an InZin (SuperHero) for the third brand.
Did a miss a Cab from somewhere (other label)?
@klezman @rjquillin @Winedavid49
A SH Mountain Selection (Red), Jana Sparkling (White), & SH Angel Eis (Blue) offer would match the 3 different types.
While multi-label (Scott Harvey, Jana, and Superhero brands), WD didn’t say the offer would be all brands!
And his Angel Eis is under his SH label, not Jana!
@klezman @Winedavid49 @rjquillin
So close!
Is Gruet in Precept?
I was thinking one of the Canoe Ridge/Huntsman/The Guide offers from before, but was thinking a sparkling, and didn’t think Gruet.
@MarkDaSpark @rjquillin @Winedavid49 Angel Eis is under the Jana label.
Yes, Gruet is Precept.
@winedavid49
Seems all have or are taking the day/night off.
Gotta clue for us?
Less than 30 minutes to go…
@rjquillin happy 4th everyone!
4th in Sonoma is an all day affair, clearly.
Well, looks like we all took the 4th off!
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark back in the saddle!
well, if you combined what we do (at the end) and a hippey, you’d get this very small winery.
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Shippey Vineyards?
too easy… Dry Creek in the house!
@Winedavid49
Darn it! I thought you meant a Dry Creek Vineyards appearance!
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark happy Friday! clue?
i wonder if a remake of Popeye would now have this as his favorite food…
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49
Kale Wines?
@klezman @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49
precisely my first, and only, thought as well
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark hope everyone had a nice weekend. clue?
new offer from this bungalow of a winery.
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Seems to be a few ways this could go. Cottage Creek Vineyards? Or Buck Shack?
@Mark_L @Winedavid49
Depends if it’s a new offer from a previous winery or from a new winery.
The Lodge Winery & Olive Oil Co
@Mark_L @Winedavid49
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark good evening! clue? 2nd offer from this emerging winery. goes particularly well with tongue!
Tongue and Groove
@msten
Tongue in Groove? Didn’t see one with “And”.
Tongue 'n Cheek?
@Winedavid49
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark love this Italian varietal. Great spot to grow it. this goto winery reminds me for some reason of Samuel Clemons.
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Mark Twain once said: “There are no standards of taste in wine… Each man’s own taste is the standard, and a majority vote cannot decide for him or in any slightest degree affect the supremacy of his own standard.”
@Winedavid49
Twisted Oak? (In Twain Harte, & Calveras County) Tempranillo?
@davirom
I call that group think, but Twain said it much better
@MarkDaSpark Since when is Tempranillo an Italian varietal?
@InFrom
Since I said so?
@MarkDaSpark @WineDavid49 Speaking of, I’m looking very closely at the map of Italy and still can’t find Portugal.
@InFrom @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49
@InFrom @Winedavid49
You obviously missed Spain as well!
Besides, Spain is a colony of Italy!
@Winedavid49
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark Happy Friday. this is a tough one (obscure). but i don’t mean to “rant” but i bet this "first-person tactical hero shooter " would like this wine. (sorry in advance, this may be a stretch).
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49
Duke Nuke’em Kvetch?
@Winedavid49
More like a “Hail Mary”?
If it’s the one sent to labrat.
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49
Desperation Wines? If that’s a thing…
Long Throw? I’m just making stuff up!
“rant” being the end of the word/name.
@Winedavid49
If it’s the wine I’m labratting, I’m not seeing the connection. And that the word is about the only one that pops up. (Using “first-person tactical hero shooter”)
@Winedavid49
I got nothin’…Durant?
@karenhynes @Winedavid49
Well, it isn’t the labrat bottle I was sent. So apologies to WD.
And the game was Valorant … so obviously Valo!
So, not a stretch!
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark
We’ll that’s ironic, I’m driving right past this division, two college on my way to pick up the wife at Oakland airport
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Is there a Berkeley Wine Company? Or a Treasure Island Winery? Not that Treasure Island is on your way.
Or Kendric?
@klezman @Winedavid49
Nope. Not a prayer in those.
Division 2 college
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49
Domenico?
Dominican Oaks (are they still around?)?
@karenhynes @Winedavid49
Ding, ding, ding (on 2nd one)!
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark well, umm. If Baio had siblings with the same name and there was a masculine conjugation.
@MarkDaSpark @WCCGeorge
Scotto Family Cellars?
@winedavid49
Clue, if you’re not already traveling…
@rjquillin damn , I got my day wrong again!!
Btw, I’m bringing a legend on to be my first clue giver while I’m in NZ.
Stay tuned!
Sorry about tonight.
Ok, back to some normalcy on tonight’s offer. Tried and true. Original gangster stuff. Wines from the “auslaufer”
This is WD btw.
Zeppelin?
@dawnlac
If not Swilly … Scott Harvey? (Trained in Germany)
Or maybe Y. Rousseau?
@dawnlac @MarkDaSpark
Scott fits well.
And I bet El Jefe speaks a bit of German?
I guess I’m the guess cluemeister for a while, but didn’t know exactly where to post my clue the first time. Fifty years ago my best friend from the wine industry was making wine from the vineyard planted by the immigrant great grandpa of tonight’s winemaker.
@PeterW
You found it fine!
Denier-Handel? (David Noyes)
Trouble posting - sorry for the delay.
Fifty years ago my best friend from the wine industry was making wine from the vineyard planted by the great grandfather of tonight’s winemaker.
@PeterW
You found it fine!
Denier-Handel? (David Noyes)
@MarkDaSpark, nope
@PeterW thanks Peter. Off to Auckland !
@PeterW
J. Dusi Wines?
If not, can we haz mor klue?
@MarkDaSpark , bingo! Ridge “Paso Robles” Zinfandel, Dusi Vineyard was the first great wine I ever tasted from that region.
@MarkDaSpark @PeterW nice clue! Thanks Peter!
Really enjoyed a 2010 Mohrhardt Cab last week!
So, coincidence? WD goes to New Zealand and the guest clue meister is Wellington? Inquiring minds want to know!
@davirom
Not a coincidence at all. WD mentioned someone would be filling in for providing offer clues.
@PeterW
It’s always nice to see you here. Thanks for taking the time to provide us with clues. I hope retirement is treating you well!
Schloss?
@PeterW
Castello di Amorosa?
Chateau St. Jean ?
Eagle Castle (Paso)?
@MarkDaSpark @PeterW Moran Manor?
@klezman @MarkDaSpark @PeterW
I was thinking something on that line…or a notch down to Buck Shack or Tin Barn or Brick Barn?
Not a schloss or a chateau or a castello or an estate.
Not domaine or finca either, but definitely not schloss
Vollrads
Were, not a schloss
Actually, not a schloss, were
@PeterW
Great clues … we were getting to Villa. Although we might have needed a “not in London” clue (as in Werewolves of).
He got his start in the wine business as a garagiste bootlegger.
@PeterW I didn’t know that! (I’m a rat tonight.)
@klezman @PeterW
Hoi Polloi?
Tank Garage?
Bodega Rancho?
@MarkDaSpark @PeterW
Nope
The only additional clue I could think of would be too much of a giveaway for you! I can say it’s an unexpected variety from this particular source, but not an unusual variety by any means.
He’s possibly even more interested in obscure grape varieties than I am.
@PeterW perhaps I’m just sentimental, with all the added white and grey, but it sure is warm and fuzzy having you back on the boards here.
Formerly Schloss Schlachthof
I’m having a hard time coming up with some clever little nugget today. All I can say is that he’s an incredibly nice guy.
@PeterW
But you’re right on time, even without MdS prompting/nagging. That says a lot, and it’s going to be difficult for WD to live up to the bar you’ve now set!
Unless ‘clever little nugget’ was the clue.
That would be very in brand with something WD would do.
Perhaps a Lab Rat could do the deed…
@PeterW @rjquillin
Hey! I don’t think I’ve met a winemaker that hasn’t been a nice guy! Some wineaux on the other hand …
@PeterW
Well played
Keep digging
@PeterW
Broken Earth?
Casino Mine Ranch?
Miner Family Winery
@MarkDaSpark , with a heart of gold
@MarkDaSpark @PeterW Keep me searching for a heart of gold. Does Neil Young have a winery?
I could see myself making this style of wine.
@PeterW Could? Or did you?
@klezman, I don’t use words carelessly.
@PeterW
Mirror Wines?
@klezman @PeterW
Replica Wines?
Looking Glass Wines?
@klezman @PeterW
Reflection Ridge?
@klezman @MarkDaSpark
@MarkDaSpark @PeterW
It’s the “style” that threw me…
@klezman @PeterW
How quickly they forget …
@MarkDaSpark @PeterW I didn’t forget that at all!
Too bad there’s no more D’Ontspille out there!
@klezman @PeterW
Pssst. Also Vinito del Finito was Peter’s!
He made wonderful wines, wrote amazing blogs for us, AND gives us clues!
It’s Super Wellington!
(Sorry, couldn’t resist!)
Edit: Well, if you ever visit the Dallas area, my stash is residing there, waiting patiently for me to move!
@MarkDaSpark @PeterW
Sadly that’s one I missed out on and haven’t had the pleasure of tasting.
@kawichris650 @PeterW
Well, once I finally finish moving, if you’re in the Dallas area, I can open one!
@MarkDaSpark You ever find the wines that were theoretically allocated for me? Or should I cross those off the “expecting” list?
And I completely agree on the amazingness of @PeterW! And don’t forget those blending workshops!
@PeterW must be stumped on the clue!
Hint, here’s how WD decided!
@MarkDaSpark, what is the appropriate time of day for dropping clues?
@PeterW
Usually anytime after 5pm PT. Earlier if you want.
@MarkDaSpark That is HILARIOUS! And exactly how WD would choose. hahahahah
@WCCWineGirl
I thought at first it was the one further down on the 4th!
Just a bit late here. I used this winery’s varietals as reference points when I was developing my palate and my taste/smell memory in the 70’s.
@klezman @PeterW
Well, we know you first got into Cab Franc at Carmenet (now Moon Mountain Estate) in the early 80’s.
But you said from the 70s, so, more help please?
@klezman @MarkDaSpark two clues posted
@MarkDaSpark @PeterW looks like we only needed the one
My style didn’t exactly copy theirs. It felt more like I was taking it into the next generation.
Oh, can this really be the end?
@PeterW
@MarkDaSpark @PeterW Is somebody stuck inside of Mobile?
A friend?
@PeterW
Noyes?
Meeker?
Handal-Denier?
@klezman @PeterW @davirom
Thought of those … but the ?
Thinking Anne Amie Vineyards (ami - french for friend)
@davirom @klezman @MarkDaSpark @PeterW
Aren’t Friday offers generally those that have a limited quantity available. Can’t imaging friends, another Ped offer.
Were I to be really cynical, a Wellington Cellars offer. Don’t think we’ve ever seen one of those, despite the tour stop.
@davirom @klezman @PeterW @rjquillin
That was a VJB stop.
@davirom @MarkDaSpark @PeterW @rjquillin There was a VJB offer a long time ago on the old site. But I heard they did not ever want to do it again.
@davirom @klezman @MarkDaSpark @PeterW
True, VJB, but it seems there is also ‘cellars’ stuff that appears to be from them as well, that has caused undue confusion on CT with those that don’t know the difference.
@davirom @klezman @MarkDaSpark
@davirom @klezman @MarkDaSpark @PeterW I guess that means “one of the above”!
@davirom @klezman @Mark_L @MarkDaSpark
@klezman sez:
@davirom @MarkDaSpark @PeterW @rjquillin I’ve submitted several corrections to CT to ensure that “Wellington Cellars” is not conflated with the far superior in all respects Wellington Vineyards.
@davirom @klezman @MarkDaSpark @PeterW very well done.
@davirom @klezman @MarkDaSpark @PeterW
Re: corrections. Likewise, many submissions, both for descriptions as well as incorrect bottle shots.
I don’t suppose it could be Pedroncelli Friends at this point. Could it?
@PeterW @Winedavid49
Or is he still lounging around down under?
A couple of great medical schools might have collaborated on tonight’s wine.
@PeterW toughie!
Bodega Catena Zapata (Winemaker is also a doc)?
Testarossa Winery Doctor’s Vineyard?
@MarkDaSpark @PeterW too bad it’s unlikely to be Turley or Ridge!
@klezman @MarkDaSpark @PeterW
wild card offer
Des Voigne Cellars “The DUKE” comes from the COLUMBIA valley. . . (Lots of wineries with “Columbia” in their names.)
@PeterW
@MarkDaSpark, does this come prior to the OG, or after?
@PeterW
After?
Definitely not before drinking your elixirs!
@MarkDaSpark @PeterW De Negoce?
Who’s the head gangsta?
@PeterW
We already had Pedroncelli …
Scott Harvey?
Or Winesmith?
Or Stillman Brown (Zeppelin)?
@PeterW
@MarkDaSpark , you were informed correctly. This winemaker was at my wedding a third of a century ago.
@PeterW
David Noyes?
Otherwise, we need a bit more clue!
@MarkDaSpark @PeterW I hear Peter Wellington was there…
@MarkDaSpark @PeterW No? OK, my WAG is Scott Harvey.
@InFrom @MarkDaSpark @PeterW mine is Clark
@InFrom @klezman @PeterW
Just as good …
@InFrom @klezman @MarkDaSpark, my wife’s matron of honor also sang at the wedding, with her acapella group. I hadn’t met either David Noyes or Scott Harvey at the time.
@InFrom @MarkDaSpark @PeterW could have been Kent (and Celia, of course) but we just saw him here.
Who’s the king of the acacia trees?
@PeterW
Can’t be Winesmith again (Acacia wood chips)?
Peterson Winery? (French Acacia wood barrels)
@PeterW
Quivira Vineyards?
Longshot: Ratio Wines (Anthony King, formerly at Acacia Vineyards and Lemelson Vineyards)
@MarkDaSpark , the king and/or queen (and prince, etc.)
@MarkDaSpark @PeterW
Well played!
@PeterW
@MarkDaSpark, I was composing the clue as you were posting.
@PeterW
@PeterW
Humm, not a particularly short clue, but it sure piques interest in the offer.
@PeterW @rjquillin
Gruet (from New Mexico) ?
@MarkDaSpark @rjquillin, spot on!
@MarkDaSpark @PeterW @rjquillin If only it was still from New Mexico!
@klezman tell me more?
@klezman @MarkDaSpark @rjquillin , what? where then?
@klezman @MarkDaSpark @PeterW @rjquillin
@klezman @MarkDaSpark @rjquillin @ScottW58 Thank you for the great explanation
@klezman @PeterW @rjquillin @ScottW58
Ah, just saw that on the main page! Just like when we went on the RPM Lodi/Amador Tour and found out a lot of Lodi grapes go into “California” labeled wines.
@MarkDaSpark @PeterW @rjquillin @ScottW58
@PeterW @Winedavid49
I have no idea whereon this winery is.
@PeterW
Clever!
Locati == Location
I had the Whitman down, should have known the college!
Oh, my daughter almost went to a nearby small liberal arts college to study poetry.
@PeterW
Dominican Oaks?
@PeterW
Wait … winery near college?
Or college near you?
college and winery, same NW town
@PeterW
Whitman Hill (Heritage College close)???
@PeterW
or Heritage Cabernet Sauvignon by Browne Family Vineyards ?? (also by Heritage College)
@MarkDaSpark @PeterW @markdaspark @rquillin
Kia Ora !
thanks Peter for the great clues ! gotta tell ya, i feel very much like Wally Pipp. Peter (aka Lou Gehrig) deserves to be the starting clue giver !!
i’ll see what i can do.
until then, this wine should have been in the line up while i was away (not too shabby a line up eh…?).
i have a couple of visitors coming this week who i bet could chime in on the subject.
thanks again Peter!
@MarkDaSpark @rquillin @Winedavid49,
Did you get unwound yet?
So close
@Winedavid49
So is that the clue?

Red Stitch Wines?
Baker Family Wines?
JACK Winery?
@Mark_L @Winedavid49
Seaver Vineyards?
@Mark_L @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 I think WD meant this is another (more or less) auto-buy that he should have had in the mix for when he was enjoying some time off.
So what didn’t we get?
Iron Horse
Noceto
Twisted Oak
Ty
Peterson
Pedroncelli
@klezman @Mark_L @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 , I’d be torqued to get a couple of bottles of this.
@klezman @MarkDaSpark @PeterW @Winedavid49 Twisted Oak is looking likely.
Welcome back @Winedavid49! But we’ll miss @PeterW!
Sorry, I’m utterly clueless today.
@PeterW sure the answer isn’t blowing in the wind? Guess I’ll try…
To carry on
@james @PeterW

So WineSmith, his Two Jakes, or one of Clay Shannon’s (Pistol Grip, Shannon Ridge)?
@Winedavid49 another great clue
@msten @Winedavid49 As a Labrat for this one, I didn’t have guess. However, I did do some research on the correspondence between Prima Materia and a philosopher’s stone, and agree that it was a great clue.

@InFrom @jmdavidson1
Seals & Crofts; and indeed they did. I was touring with them for a few years a couple of years after that hit. I think those dayz in LA took more than a few years off my potential lifetime…
@InFrom @jmdavidson1 @rjquillin
A favorite song from my youth!
@jmdavidson1 @karenhynes @rjquillin I really love the beautiful cover by the Isleys.
@InFrom @jmdavidson1 @rjquillin
I don’t think I’ve ever heard that before (just listened). Pretty cool. They also did a pretty nifty cover of Hello It’s Me.
@InFrom @jmdavidson1 @karenhynes
Sadly Jim Seals is no longer with us as of last year.
Do check out ‘Get Closer’ with Carolyn Willis as lead vocalist. She was a fun addition to the '76 tour.
Isn’t it time for @WineDavid49 to give us a clue?
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark when looking to come up with a clue for this emerging brand i went straight to Rudolph the Red nose reindeer show from our youth. turns out the land was called misfits. i thought it was this.

Guess it has been awhile.
@dirtdoctor @karenhynes @rjquillin
No, we did not
@dirtdoctor @karenhynes @rjquillin @Winedavid49
Both are on the list, but only IH has been here on Casemates.
However … WD could have meant having Corison back with an offer. BUT …it would be $$$$$!!!
I didn’t see Laura’s or Janelle’s wineries listed (which I would hoped would be on that list).
@Winedavid49 WAG, Jana?
@dirtdoctor @karenhynes @rjquillin @Winedavid49 IH it shall be. Been a long time since we saw a bubbly offer. Will Joy finally relent?
@dirtdoctor @karenhynes @rjquillin @Winedavid49 oh well, maybe next time…

this wine isn’t a miracle nor is it amazin’. but it is one of the best QPR contributors to this place we call casemates.
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Letz go Metz!
@InFrom @Winedavid49
Ah, but which Metz?
Domaine Gerald Metz?
Domaine Hubert Metz?
Metz Winery (in Ramona, CA)?

Obviously the latter, but I had to yank your chain for imprecision!
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark another great white value offer from this winery. i mean, can’t we all just get along??
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Looking for a King estate mixed white.
@MarkDaSpark @msten @Winedavid49

Mixed case?
The world changes.
@Winedavid49
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark crap. sorry. honest mistake.
imports are hard. but here goes:
widely considered the Pioneer of Morellino di Scansano.
@Winedavid49 @ScottW58
If not Moris Farms (as ScottW58 said) then either Fattoria Mantellassi or Fattoria Le Pupille.
@Winedavid49 @ScottW58
Oh you wanted the Guy …
The only one I ever had was from Morisfarms and it was really nice.
@Winedavid49
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark this amazing wine and brand some how reminds me of tater tots.
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark heavy yard work. laying pavers. hoy.
This may be a repeat clue, if so i apologize.
Winefarm reminds me of Winona (with a dash of New Gyrl).
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 If it’s a repeat clue, it has shown up for Heather Creek Ranch in the past.

@MarkDaSpark it even feels later than it is, doesn’t it?!
We call this winery a friend. is this our first white?

@Winedavid49
No, no it’s not the first!
July 2021 offer of D-H 2019 Verdelho
July 2021 Verdelho
VJB or Wellington Cellars. D-H has no whites listed.
@msten Au contraire, mon ami!
A search finds 3 whites!
2021 Denier-Handal White Blend (66% Viognier, 34% Chenin Blanc)
Also 2021 Viognier and 2021 2021 Denier-Handal Verdelho
Actually, the 2019 Verdelho was here on July 29, 2021!
@MarkDaSpark The D-H winery website I located has no white wine listed for sale was the intention of the previous statement. Another “horseshoes and hand grenades” guess.
@msten
Why you take wine sites with a grain of salt. I too, saw no whites listed on their website, but that’s what they offer to the general public. But a general search shows the 3 whites.
clue for this evening?
Thunder is the highest point. Wonder if they thought of this one when they produce these lines of wines. always an absolute hit. and a personal favorite.
@Winedavid49
Scott Harvey’s Mountain Select wines?
@Winedavid49 inzinerator
@Winedavid49

Just saw it now on refresh!
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49
Weird indeed!
It’s past the normal clue tone based on my time zone. Doesn’t matter that I’m 3 hours ahead.
So @WineDavid49 where’s the clue?
I also won’t be able to see the clue until after I land!
@klezman clue?
Jemisin
@Winedavid49 you were so speedy that I do have time to see this before I take off!
Looks like Broken Earth.
@klezman @Winedavid49

@klezman @MarkDaSpark one of these days, you’ll remember Winedavid plays basketball on sunday nights.
@klezman @Winedavid49
The Rockers with Walkers League?
And that’s just Sundays!
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark our second great offering from this family winery. name reminds me of an Italian word for brother or countryman.
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 is there a Fratelli winery?
@klezman @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Well, “paisano” is Italian for countryman and is a product name of Carlo Rossi with 4 liters widely available for under $20 retail .
@davirom @klezman @Winedavid49
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark clue?

@hscottk @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49
but one can always hope.
Joy is generally a bit later, December iirc
Good evening.
winefarm and i spent a lovely evening hosted at this winery. reminded me of the RPM tour.
the event was hosted by a great guy pormoting an important cause. check out:
https://manuptocancer.org/
it’s very cool what they are doing.
@Winedavid49 Hall?
@klezman @Winedavid49
Hello! clue?
Santa Ynez, western
@Winedavid49
Brick Barn Wine Estate

heads up: best price ever on this one.
@Winedavid49
Winesmith!
Pulling a WD … could have sworn I did a clue request post!
@Winedavid49 Sounds like @Winesmith, but haven’t seen any email.
@Mark_L @Winedavid49
Nor did I for the last couple or so offers.
Some say WD cracked down.
Good evening.
one of our favorite winery partners up north acquired this property purportedly " on a bluff overlooking the Yakima River". i bet they have an “oldla” built there.
@Winedavid49 Sounds like Desert Wind Winery.
@Mark_L @Winedavid49
They were here last December
clue? with all due respect to Scotty Harvey, this person show’s up outside his offers to spice up the joint. for that reason alone, i’ll be buying. plus he has a very nice touch indeed in the wine making category. great deal (and participation) coming.
@Winedavid49 Another Tercero (or wine smith)
@msten Got to be Larry, he’s chomping at the bit on the current thread
@Winedavid49

@rjquillin @ScottW58
Hey, @Winedavid49, seems like it’s getting a bit late and the clue is overdue.

@InFrom @rjquillin @Winedavid49 I mean, having kids is like being a cat herder… Is there a parent wines or something?
@InFrom @rjquillin @Winedavid49
Two Shepherds?
@chipgreen @InFrom @rjquillin @Winedavid49 that seemed too literal I didn’t even check if it was a winery
@chipgreen @InFrom @klezman @rjquillin @Winedavid49 Same. Was too lazy to check.
@hscottk @InFrom @klezman @rjquillin @Winedavid49
I am literally a very literal person.
@chipgreen @hscottk @InFrom @klezman @rjquillin @Winedavid49
Remember that the clue will be obvious OR obscure!
@Winedavid49
Obvious or Obscure …
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark pardon, i got pulled. Tis the season! lots of boxes.
clue?
daily drinker, clever label. good price.
try to visualize a vessel (beer or sometimes wine) with several XXX’s across it.
@Winedavid49
Well, there’s :
3 Passo Rosso Vino d’Italia Biologico
Also 3 Steps Wines
@Winedavid49
Doh! Went astray with the Beer/Wine.
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49
…and let’s not talk about what happens when you add “XXX” to a search for just about anything.
@karenhynes @Winedavid49
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark another stellar Paso offer from this female wine maker, making her family proud.
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 J Dusi
@Winedavid49
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark a very different situation tonight (on two fronts). for casemates, this is a “big” event more than type of wine. i’m calling MM+.
care to guess what the acronym stands for?
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Large Format. Magnums and Double Mags. Perhaps even larger?
@Winedavid49
@Winedavid49
Technical difficulties. blaming it on the mm+ sell out. apologies!
@Winedavid49
A strange clue this one is…
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark that’s funny or is it smelly… Johnny Depp was gonna be my clue.
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49
Twisted Oak?
@Winedavid49
Gilbert Gruet = Gilbert Grape?
@karenhynes @Winedavid49
Argh, should’ve thought of that first!
@karenhynes @Winedavid49
But then again …
@Winedavid49 … based on the clues since the 7th …
@MarkDaSpark This is some pretty good wine from a small brand you probably have not heard of. but the region? it’s known for being one of the longest ripening seasons in California.
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Mendocino Ridge?
Happy Friday. what a treat tonight. not just a Müller-Thurgau sighting, not just an estate Müller-Thurgau, but a great priced estate Müller-Thurgau. from a trusted source over the years.
@Winedavid49 Maybe from Anne Amie?
@Mark_L @Winedavid49
Gotta be!
@Winedavid49 … basketball must have gone into overtime!
@MarkDaSpark it did. and my kid arrived home from college. totally spaced.
apologies.
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49
That’s the clue, or did you forget what the offer is…?
@MarkDaSpark @rjquillin I just miss one every once in a while to prove I’m no a robot or ai…:-)
Tonight? Two zins from different t labels.
The love child would be “Renway”
But then again my typos give abundant proof!!
.
@rjquillin @Winedavid49
Renwood?
Martellotto “My Way” Zin?
Or
Wayra Zin?
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark new vineyard. the wine should lift, raise, elevate, rise
@Winedavid49
Sleight of Hand Cellars Levitation ?
Or (less likely)
Vintners Cove Winery Levitate
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Too bad it’s not Terre Rouge Ascent Syrah!
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark as far as the region this wine comes from, you may get this delivered
By the good witch.
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Glendale Ridge Vineyard? For, you know, Glenda? I know it’s a long shot.
@davirom @Winedavid49
Well, there was the Hallmark series, “The Good Witch”, starring Catherine Bell as Cassie Nightingale.
So possibly Bell Wine Cellars or Nightingale Wines from NSW.
@Winedavid49
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark Happy Christmas Eve everyone! fitting a long time friend of Casemates is launching on a special occasion such as Christmas. A first time desert offering from her if i’m not mistaken.
happy holidays my friends.
WD49
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 did Cathy decide to make a dessert wine?!
More likely the lady from Onesta?
@klezman @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 or Iron Horse?
@davirom @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 I thought you meant a new venture, not just something new to us!
Either way, yum!
@davirom @klezman @Winedavid49
First time here maybe, but not to those from the Mystery Tours! IIRC, I bought a few during those trips.
Time for a clue, @WineDavid49!
@klezman @Winedavid49
@klezman @markdaspark HAS to be the coolest architecture in Werribee Park.
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 Shadowfax Vineyards?
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark howdy, i wonder if Randy is a Neil fan.
@MarkDaSpark @Winedavid49 that would be Harvest Moon
@MarkDaSpark @msten @Winedavid49 hope it’s anything other than the Randy Zin! Although I shouldn’t be buying, so maybe I hope it is?
@Winedavid49 Would be great to have a Harvest Moon offer seems like such a long time but maybe I missed one. Usually a autobuy for me but last purchase was 4/2021 a Randy Zin…so one can hope
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark @winedavid49
I expect he still may be in the ER recovering from the mag flogging he endured today.
@MarkDaSpark @rjquillin hah, I’m so messed up on day of the week. Better on 2024!
@Winedavid49
@MarkDaSpark
