Utah I expected, but the other seemingly sharp boundaries came as a total surprise, at least to me. As those between KS, OK and TX; then look at NV and green Vegas. And the N-S boundary of the Ohio river. What’s with WI!?

Some may remember my Ar sparger I used, and still use, to backfill an open bottle. Well, I finally got around to fabricating an adaptor to connect my Argon cylinder directly to the Coravin for sampling. No more $10 capsules or $300 for some other solution. Unscrew the capsule handle, remove the piercing fitting and screw in the brass adaptor, connect to cylinder and enjoy 40 ft³ of gas for $100 and change. Leave the bottle under positive Ar pressure for what seems to be unlimited time. I’ve had a bottle with a pierced cork horizontal for nearly a month now with no seepage. Finally I can economically sample a bottle well before I’d even consider pulling a cork. Only took ~5 years of frustration to finally get around to it. The capsule handle cover now protects the needle when not in use.

@losthighwayz nah, we moved a bunch of cases over. this is a friday deal. friday is usually limited quantities. just a few 6 ers left.
Winedavid59 said Friday at 4:26pm ET @losthighwayz The bigger rant might be, that the site has never really been set up to easily find “Mates” to split cases with!
I appreciate all the wine I have purchased here, but I would prefer to be able to experiment more with new/different wines, which I can’t always do, because I can only drink so much , and can only take so many full cases; and also the price differential for a non-case can be too much. The initial model I thought was to enable us to find ‘Mates’ to share cases with, but that has never really materialized.
drgonzo99 said Friday at 5:36pm ET @drgonzo99@losthighwayz Just wondering: How many times have you asked if anyone is interested in splitting a case in your area? I know it doesn’t always work, but sometimes it does!

ttboy23 said Friday at 9:17pm ET @chipgreen@drgonzo99@losthighwayz@ttboy23 it’s pretty clear that Meh didn’t want to build the tools. So WD started Divvy Up with tools but it never really got off the ground.
I would love easier ways to split cases. But I’ve found folks over the years and made it work.
hscottk said Friday at 10:03pm ET @TimW@Winedavid59 how so? Not sure you followed my argument go back and reread it
Or maybe you aren’t following … Some locations don’t HAVE other Casemateers close by … and they may not be able to go that far where someone is located. AND they don’t want a CASE. Or they moved to any area where others formerly on Casemates don’t pop into offers that much, and so DON’T HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY to “share” a case with someone else.
So while they could “combine” the 6 into cases, not everyone WANTS a case!
MarkDaSpark said Friday at 10:26pm ET @MarkDaSpark@TimW@Winedavid59 mark no one invited you but since you have decided to join us. I never said people don’t want a six pack. I said the premise of Casemates is for people to buy cases. I thought you had better reading skills. In any event, you bought a case, correct? I rest my case. Hope Texas is treating you well! Cheers!
losthighwayz said Friday at 10:45pm ET @MarkDaSpark@TimW@Winedavid59 Mark, you did read the multiple posts asking for more cases, right? I hope you did but in case you did not I can fill you in. Let me know.
losthighwayz said Friday at 10:48pm ET @losthighwayz@MarkDaSpark@Winedavid59 when I said “ all are sold out now…so it all worked”: i meant, that they sold out so they didn’t need to combine into cases. They sold all the wine without combining.
TimW said Friday at 10:51pm ET @MarkDaSpark@TimW@Winedavid59 as I knew it would but that wasn’t my point. My point is that by not combining 6 packs into cases it increased their profit margin at the expense of loyal customers who would’ve preferred the case price. WD could’ve easily combined remaining inventory but chose not to and that’s his prerogative but own up to it. Don’t say not true only a few 6ers left (at 6pm) when peeps were asking for cases since 7 am. That’s what I was trying to point out.
rjquillin said Friday at 11:40pm ET @losthighwayz@MarkDaSpark@rjquillin@TimW@Winedavid59 It is not bickering, when it is the truth. Granted, I buy 99% percent of wine from this site and I love the deals. As I remember it, when wine.woot closed and this was born, we were told we would have advanced tools. Obviously this has not happened and probably never will. Does this stop me from buying wine here, no. But being honest goes a long way. They just need to say, we make more money off of 6 packs, so that is why we cannot add more.
Promised tools not delivered, but many have been on this soapbox multiple times, myself included.
rjquillin said Saturday at 12:16am ET @danandlisa@losthighwayz@MarkDaSpark@rjquillin@TimW@Winedavid59
I still don’t understand why they don’t have a checkout system that’s intelligent enough to subtract 12s and 6s from one total quantity until the bottles are gone. What year is this? Seriously, we are on the verge of quantum computing.
chipgreen said Saturday at 12:26am ET @losthighwayz@MarkDaSpark@rjquillin@TimW@Winedavid59 I agree, but maybe David needs to say, whoops, we can’t deliver what we said. losthighwayz said Saturday at 12:38am ET @danandlisa@losthighwayz@MarkDaSpark@rjquillin@TimW@Winedavid59
It wouldn’t be so bad if they hadn’t crowd-funded the site. 1,829 of us combined to give over $120,000 to the CM Kickstarter campaign. As such, there should have been some sense of obligation/responsibility on the part of Casemates to follow through with their promises for the development of the site.
chipgreen said Saturday at 12:44am ET @danandlisa@losthighwayz@MarkDaSpark@TimW@Winedavid59 Not pointing or calling out any individual; just the general tone of the thread, despite agreeing with much of it. The comment was what immediately came to mind after a good dinner and bottle of wine, and I don’t generally filter thoughts/comments well at all.
They just need to say, we make more money off of 6 packs, so that is why we cannot add more.
I’m not sure this statement is true. $90 vs $145 - but how much does it cost to pack and ship two six packs vs one case? This is $35 additional and I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s basically a wash and the profit to WCC and the winery are very similar with most of the difference going to the packing materials and UPS. Probably a touch more to the labour required to pack it all.
That said, I agree that it should be simpler to have a single inventory. And the sharing tools should be created.
klezman said Saturday at 1:56am ET @losthighwayz I’m confused. Are you asking for 18 packs, to go with the 6 and the 12 offered?
Totally disagree with the greed based conspiracy theory. How many wines sell out from the 200 or so offered every year? A dozen? And even then, they try to move inventory over when they can. Why would they take the time and effort to do that if there was an intention to overcharge us?
This isn’t about greed. I believe it’s more about technology. Casemates was late to the Meh family. It’s the only site that sells the same item at different prices on a daily basis based on quantity purchased. I’m sure site software just wasn’t designed to handle that. It was setup to sell refurb power banks and hair dryers. The case sharing tool is a similar situation.
It’s likely that at some point a business decision was made that it wasn’t worth the time and effort to recode the entire software platform to make these things work. Sure, there are issues with the status quo (shipping notifications, anyone?) but it more or less does what they need it to do. This is a one off use case they weren’t prepared to invest in. Do I know this as fact? No. But it makes a lot more sense than your cynical take.
losthighwayz said Saturday at 9:38am ET @danandlisa@hscottk@klezman@MarkDaSpark@rjquillin@TimW@Winedavid59 not sure that I agree. They have made cases available after sellouts many times over the years hence it is possible. Yes the technology isn’t there but the ability to make it happen is still there. Where there’s a will there is a way.
losthighwayz said Saturday at 9:40am ET @Drez143 not at all. What I’m saying is that CM could have made more cases available for purchase after cases sold out at 6am and only 6 packs were left but close not to. The inventory and demand were clearly there.
losthighwayz said Saturday at 9:42am ET @danandlisa@klezman@losthighwayz@MarkDaSpark@rjquillin@TimW@Winedavid59 It’s pretty clear what happens there. Someone tags Thumperchick, she sees it and jumps on to move inventory. If she happens to be busy, out sick, etc, it may sell out before that happens. This really isn’t that complicated. If they wanted to bilk us for every drachma, they never had to offer this in the first place. The fact that they use their labor resources to LOSE $$ and work the process manually displays just the opposite of what you accuse them of.
hscottk said Saturday at 9:54am ET @losthighwayz ahhh, so you wanted 24? You could just place multiple (up to two) orders! Easy peasy!
Drez143 said Saturday at 10:43am ET @losthighwayz@MarkDaSpark@TimW@Winedavid59 If it was really important to you, you could have bought a case when it went up for sale. Some of us on the East Coast have jobs that require us to get some sleep in order to function, so it’s necessary to get to bed before the sale begins at midnight. For people like you, who live on the West Coast, and have the advantage of buying it at 9:00 PM, that’s less of an issue. It’s not really up to you to tell someone else how to run their business. The terms of the sale were clear from the beginning. If you missed out on the better deal because you waited too long, you don’t get to demand that they fix it for you. If you wanted a case and the cases were sold out, nothing prevented you from buying two six-packs. Either way, it’s still a good deal, even compared to what I pay as a wine club member.

Yeah, I don’t know what I was expecting for a measly $120,000.
Also, thumperchick went above and beyond sitting the summer hold months to move inventory around to help everybody out.
klezman said Saturday at 6:39pm ET
@klezman stop putting words in my mouth. Weren’t new cases made available after 6am and gone within 30 minutes? Did I say I wanted someone monitoring 24/7? Stop being a bootlicker

losthighwayz said Saturday at 10:02pm ET @losthighwayz dude, I didn’t put words in your mouth. I just took it to the logical conclusion. Your complaint essentially boiled down to a lag between cases selling out and inventory being relocated. The logical end state is that you’d need somebody in hand to adjust inventory at all hours. I’m sorry you feel attacked.
what bothers me the most s the herd mentality. Maybe think about what I said and come to a sensible post that addresses my point instead of bunching up and attacking me which is the easy way out.
Then calling someone a “bootlicker” and also saying someone wasn’t “invited” to the discussion? Hold up a mirror please.
One other thought (you appear to have missed) is that WD and the wineries all use CONTRACTS. Said contracts all have things spelled out. So many cases at $XX and half (or quarter) cases at $X. Those are agreed to by both parties (WCC & the winery) prior to any offer. So while you “think” it is “easy” to just move the 6 into the case size, it might not be legally possible without getting the winery’s agreement. So it probably isn’t a simple matter to do it as you think.
Also, while I would have liked to buy a case, it’s harder here to find someone active enough to split. So I bought the 6 oniy. So instead of only thinking of yourself,think that others might appreciate the half case ability!
All;
this really isn’t a proper place to have this discussion. It adds nothing to the wine and may give Joy second thoughts regarding future offers.
Let’s take it to the Pub for further discussion.
I’m going to ask to lock this discussion and purge this discussion.
jmdavidson1 said Saturday at 10:47pm ET:
What a discussion. Whew. If you missed out and want IH chard, just wait for it to show up on TSO. It usually does. Or, you can even contact them now and see if they still have some in their inventory.
I am a kickstarter and yes, I along with most people, were promised the moon and stars. We did not get them and probably never will. I just wish we had David come out and say, sorry. I live in a remote area and I never have anyone to share my wine. This does not stop from buying here. It just means I buy less. It is disappointing to be ignored.
@danandlisa I, too, was a Kickstarter backer (#191!) and was bummed the Casemates sharing tools never came into being. And the platform definitely has its flaws well documented upthread. I mean, why do we get a sales email on day 2 when the offer sold out on day 1? No one can stop that email from going out? It doesn’t really bother me, but I can see why others are frustrated getting a sales pitch for wine they can’t buy.
All that said, I have little to complain about re: the Kickstarter. For $50, I received a nice t shirt, $30 in coupons, and VMP for a year with free shipping. More than my moneys worth to say the least. I can forgive them for not having/prioritizing labor resources to develop case sharing site tools. I’ve learned to let go.
And in some ways the glitchy nature of the website is part of its charm. This isn’t Amazon (yes, I know it used to be…). It has the feel of a neighborhood store: not perfect, but you know their name and are happy to support them.
@danandlisa@hscottk Agreed. They also don’t control the tech and back-end infrastructure since that comes from Meh/Mediocre. Their name tells you what to expect…
I would also love to have proper case splitting tools. But it took how many years to get a summer hold option? Maybe those tools will yet come, but I am certainly not holding my breath.
(And also, enough people are complaining about the summer hold option that WD might be wondering why he even tried. Just can’t please everybody, and being online makes it far too easy for people to just complain.)
@chipgreen@hscottk@klezman@rjquillin I don’t have much faith after all this time. I will continue to buy the deals because they are are good. I just wish for better.

@chipgreen @drgonzo99 @losthighwayz @ttboy23 it’s pretty clear that Meh didn’t want to build the tools. So WD started Divvy Up with tools but it never really got off the ground.
I would love easier ways to split cases. But I’ve found folks over the years and made it work.

@losthighwayz @TimW @Winedavid59
MarkDaSpark said Friday at 10:26pm ET
@MarkDaSpark @TimW @Winedavid59 mark no one invited you but since you have decided to join us. I never said people don’t want a six pack. I said the premise of Casemates is for people to buy cases. I thought you had better reading skills. In any event, you bought a case, correct? I rest my case. Hope Texas is treating you well! Cheers!
losthighwayz said Friday at 10:45pm ET
@MarkDaSpark @TimW @Winedavid59 Mark, you did read the multiple posts asking for more cases, right? I hope you did but in case you did not I can fill you in. Let me know.
losthighwayz said Friday at 10:48pm ET
@losthighwayz @MarkDaSpark @Winedavid59 when I said “ all are sold out now…so it all worked”: i meant, that they sold out so they didn’t need to combine into cases. They sold all the wine without combining.
TimW said Friday at 10:51pm ET
@MarkDaSpark @TimW @Winedavid59 as I knew it would but that wasn’t my point.

Bickersons
rjquillin said Friday at 11:40pm ET
@losthighwayz @MarkDaSpark @rjquillin @TimW @Winedavid59 It is not bickering, when it is the truth.

I still don’t understand why they don’t have a checkout system that’s intelligent enough to subtract 12s and 6s from one total quantity until the bottles are gone. What year is this? Seriously, we are on the verge of quantum computing.
chipgreen said Saturday at 12:26am ET
@losthighwayz @MarkDaSpark @rjquillin @TimW @Winedavid59 I agree, but maybe David needs to say, whoops, we can’t deliver what we said. Humility and honesty go a long way. Until then, people will bring it up. Yes Chip, especially with AI. My work emails have improved because of it.

losthighwayz said Saturday at 12:38am ET
@danandlisa @losthighwayz @MarkDaSpark @rjquillin @TimW @Winedavid59

And the sharing tools should be created.
klezman said Saturday at 1:56am ET
@losthighwayz I’m confused. Are you asking for 18 packs, to go with the 6 and the 12 offered?
Drez143 said Saturday at 7:50am ET
@danandlisa @klezman @losthighwayz @MarkDaSpark @rjquillin @TimW @Winedavid59
No. But it makes a lot more sense than your cynical take.
hscottk said Saturday at 9:28am ET
@danandlisa @klezman @MarkDaSpark @rjquillin @TimW @Winedavid59 assuming what you are saying is fact why not make cases available then? They clearly had inventory after 6am but chose not to do it.
losthighwayz said Saturday at 9:38am ET
@danandlisa @hscottk @klezman @MarkDaSpark @rjquillin @TimW @Winedavid59 not sure that I agree. They have made cases available after sellouts many times over the years hence it is possible. Yes the technology isn’t there but the ability to make it happen is still there. Where there’s a will there is a way.
losthighwayz said Saturday at 9:40am ET
@Drez143 not at all. What I’m saying is that CM could have made more cases available for purchase after cases sold out at 6am and only 6 packs were left but close not to. The inventory and demand were clearly there.
losthighwayz said Saturday at 9:42am ET
@danandlisa @klezman @losthighwayz @MarkDaSpark @rjquillin @TimW @Winedavid59 It’s pretty clear what happens there. Someone tags Thumperchick, she sees it and jumps on to move inventory. If she happens to be busy, out sick, etc, it may sell out before that happens. This really isn’t that complicated. If they wanted to bilk us for every drachma, they never had to offer this in the first place. The fact that they use their labor resources to LOSE $$ and work the process manually displays just the opposite of what you accuse them of.
hscottk said Saturday at 9:54am ET
@losthighwayz ahhh, so you wanted 24? You could just place multiple (up to two) orders! Easy peasy!
Drez143 said Saturday at 10:43am ET
@losthighwayz @MarkDaSpark @TimW @Winedavid59 If it was really important to you, you could have bought a case when it went up for sale.

Seems that lost wants a staffer on hand 24/7 to make manual inventory adjustments. Seems a tad unrealistic.
Also, thumperchick went above and beyond sitting the summer hold months to move inventory around to help everybody out.

losthighwayz said Saturday at 10:02pm ET
@losthighwayz dude, I didn’t put words in your mouth. I just took it to the logical conclusion. Your complaint essentially boiled down to a lag between cases selling out and inventory being relocated. The logical end state is that you’d need somebody in hand to adjust inventory at all hours. I’m sorry you feel attacked.

Lost,
You do realize your hypocrisy of saying:
what bothers me the most s the herd mentality.

All;
this really isn’t a proper place to have this discussion. It adds nothing to the wine and may give Joy second thoughts regarding future offers.
Let’s take it to the Pub for further discussion.
I’m going to ask to lock this discussion and purge this discussion.

True, and sometimes … it will cost less or have lower shipping. But not often. 🫨🫨

Interesting read here, you never know when one of these threads will go off the rails.
IH thread now unlocked for discussion of the wine and offer. Post your OT comments here, as posts there will be removed.
@danandlisa @hscottk Agreed.
@danandlisa @hscottk @klezman
We complain because we care.
@chipgreen @danandlisa @hscottk @klezman
Yes. I think msny realize that, and it did get get noticed. So hopefully some good will come of it.
@chipgreen @hscottk @klezman @rjquillin I don’t have much faith after all this time. I will continue to buy the deals because they are are good. I just wish for better.
