2019 Dorina Lindemann Touriga Nacional “Jovem”, Quinta da Plansel, Portugal
Tasting Notes
Flavor of dark fruits, a touch of red current and floral notes. A wine with a fine, fruity spicy palate. Balanced structure with soft tannins.
This fruit is sourced from a new estate vineyard planting of 12 hectares of Touriga Nacional. The soils are residual granite and metamorphic sedimentary soils. No herbicides are used. Touriga Nacional is a wine with an intense aroma of flowers, especially orange blossom and violets. There is great freshness & elegance from the grape in this bottling. “Jovem” means young vines in Portuguese.
Producer Info
In the late 1970’s Hans Jörg Böhm, a German viticulturist of tremendous energy and passion, arrived to Portugal to undertake the daunting task of cataloging the Portuguese wine varietals. He suspected there were a number of lesser-known and unidentified varieties with great potential – he discovered about 300 different varietals and opened the first vine nursery in Portugal, dubbed “Evora” in the region of Alentejo. This knowledge, passion and sense of purpose, to celebrate and ensure the future of indigenous varietals was passed to his daughter Dorina Lindemann, herself a young enologist who in 1997 founded the winery Quinta da Plansel.
Dorina’s work is focused on non-varietal wines and blends of the most significant grapes of northern Portugal: Touriga Nacional, Tinta Barroca and Touriga Franca. In 2001, she launched the first single varietal wines in Portugal and continues to champion these iconic grape varieties.
Touriga Nacional
Touriga Nacional is quickly becoming recognized as Portugal’s most celebrated grape variety - at once bold and lush with opulent aromatics and a range of textures. The clusters of berries are small, thick-skinned and famously resistant to the country’s often intense summertime heat, producing wines that remain fresh & balanced.

When Hans Jörg Böhm left the Rhine Palatinate and moved to the Alentejo, he consciously subscribed to a philosophy which goes beyond adopting a short-term economic perspective. His daughter Dorina and granddaughters Julia and Luísa have adopted the same approach. Professional work in viticulture must be based on solid technical expertise, which often has to be renewed and developed further in persistent pursuit of even better alternatives.
Quinta da Plansel stands firmly behind constantly promoting exchanges of experience within the spheres of international scientific progress and cultural excellence. By the same token, it remains outspoken against the lack of tolerance for innovative ideas, particularly in respect of attempts to preserve elitist academic approaches in this scientific and professional discipline.
As a result of our targeted efforts, our grapevine varieties were the first to be officially recognized in Portugal, and have also gained certified recognition in advanced wine-growing countries in the new world of wine.

December is way past summer hold. Is this date correct?
@danandlisa Summer hold info says Oct 5-15 or something similar.
@danandlisa Looks like a rough start to the second year of the dual-thread summer hold “solution”.
Hey @rjquillin are we going to lock the summer hold threads at the start like last year?
@klezman Yup, assuming I can remember to…
All comments to the main thread please.
