Our family is six generations of forward-thinking West Sonoma County farmers. Each bottle of Dutton Estate wine is our way of sharing our love for this revelatory landscape, our commitment to sustainable farming, and our deep familial bonds.
Vineyard
Dutton Ranch farms 80 distinct vineyards in the scenic Russian River Valley. Shop Block and George Jewell are home to exceptional Sauvignon Blanc grapes, cultivated from the Musque clone for its delightful floral aromas. The Kylie’s Cuvee, part of our Sisters Selection, carries a poignant family legacy. With naturally high acidity, the Shop Block Vineyard adds vibrancy, balanced through meticulous fermentation and aging. Our vineyards are Sonoma County Sustainably Farmed and Fish-Friendly certified, committed to eco-friendly practices, while dry-farming yields grapes with unparalleled character.
Winemaking
We harvest the fruit from our vineyards at night, a practice that we extend to all our vines. Throughout the intricate process of whole cluster pressing and fermentation, we meticulously gather the yield from each vineyard and block separately, ensuring that every grape reaches its peak ripeness. Our shop block grapes are whole cluster pressed before finding sanctuary in stainless-steel tanks, where they gently cool to perfection. From there, they journey into a symphony of new and neutral French oak barrels, where they undergo their magical transformation. But this year, excitement bubbled in our cellar as we embarked on an exhilarating experiment! After the pressing and cold settling, the yield from the George Jewell vineyard was divided into two vessels: one embracing the stainless steel, capturing aromatics, while the other found its home in a magnificent concrete egg! The anticipation was palpable as we watched these wines age gracefully over four months, each vessel lending its unique character to the blend. Finally, as bottling day approached, we joyfully blended the barrels from the Shop Block Vineyard with the contents of the stainless-steel and concrete egg tanks from the George Jewell Vineyard, creating a masterpiece that sings with harmony and innovation.

Nestled in the Green Valley AVA of the Russian River Valley, Dutton Estate Winery lies near the quaint town of Sebastopol. Once renowned for its apple orchards, Sebastopol is a hidden gem of Sonoma County’s famed winegrowing and the cherished home of our winery founders, Joe and Tracy Dutton.
Our story is deeply rooted in the rich agricultural history of Sonoma County. Tracy is a fourth-generation Sonoma County farmer. Her great-grandparents embarked on this legacy in the 1920s, cultivating apples and raspberries on their family farm in Forestville, known as Kozlowski Farms. This tradition thrived for nearly a century, growing both apples and grapes until 2022.
Joe is a fifth-generation Sonoma County farmer, and his story intertwines even deeper with Sonoma’s agricultural heritage. The Duttons began farming in Sonoma County in the late 1890’s and Dutton Ranch expanded to growing apples and grapes in the Russian River AVA in 1964. Dutton Ranch spans over 1,200 acres of wine grapes and 300 acres of apples, all within the esteemed Green Valley-Russian River Valley and Sonoma Coast appellations.
Today, Dutton Estate Winery is led by the sixth generation of Dutton women and sisters, Kyndall Dutton, our winemaker, Kylie Dutton, and Karmen Dutton. The “Sisters” are mentored by the stewardship of their parents, Joe and Tracy, with the steadfast mission to pursue forward with the legacy of agriculture and winemaking, taking immense pride in passing on our agricultural traditions and crafting wine from our nurtured land to ensure sustainability for our next Dutton generation.
What makes Dutton Estate Winery unique is the deep sense of family and continuity. The sixth generation, embodied by the “Sisters”, plays an integral role in our winery operations. This seamless blend of tradition, sustainability, and innovation is at the heart of everything we do. Every bottle of wine we produce is a testament to our dedication to family values and agricultural excellence. We invite you to join our family, share in our heritage, and experience the fruits of our labor directly from the land we cherish. From our family to yours, we welcome you to taste the legacy of Dutton.
