2020 Gård Grand Klasse Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, Royal Slope, Washington
Tasting Notes
Deep ruby in color, this wine opens with ripe black cherries, plums, macerated blackberries, dried tobacco, black currant, orange rind, and baking spices. Swirling brings forth red cherries, lilac floral notes, summer savory, cedar box, burnt brown sugar, graphite, and peppercorn. The mouthfeel is silky, with a dense core showing mid-palate, slightly chalky tannins, and playful and abundant acidity. The palate expresses generous red and black fruits such as raspberries, blueberries, and dark cherries, as well as sandalwood, dried herbs, and spice, with a finish that is grippy and lingering. This wine has great texture and personality. Drink now or age up to 15 years.

Tasting Notes
Lots of dark and red fruit on the nose, the 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon begins with blackberry compote, raspberry jam, mocha, sandalwood, and potpourri. Swirling brings riper fruit and spices, with figs, dark cherry, oak spice, cardamom, and eucalyptus. The mouthfeel has great sweetness and concentration, with remarkable structure and a beautiful acid lift. The oak presentation here is elegant, and the tannins are very fine. The wine finishes long, with the perfect amount of grip. Drink now or in the next 10 years.

We received a very nice holiday surprise with a lab rat for the 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Grand Klasse Reserve
The bottle was delivered and I put it in the chiller, it would pair nicely with the prime rib we were having for Christmas dinner. I opened the bottle about 30 minutes before dinner, we wanted to taste it alone, and with dinner. This wine looks bold in the glass with an intense crimson. On the nose we both got dark fruits, I got earthiness, tobacco, but my wife had more berries.
The first sip was very nice, more complex than the nose led us to think. More fruit came forward, but the earthiness shown through. There is a nice amount of oak that is appreciated and not overpowering. The wine paired beautifully with the dinner, it was soft on the mouth and full of dark red fruit. As the wine sat it opened up the fruit settle and the tobacco came forth, this wine would have decanted nicely.
We ended dinner with some dark chocolate truffles and the wine stood up amazingly well to the chocolate. We definitely recommend this wine for anyone who loves a Cabernet.

This is good stuff. If I weren’t tripping over boxes in the basement I’d jump at this. I bought the last mixed reds case and enjoyed all of them, mostly with food but enjoyable as a sipper as well.
I’m a big fan of Washington reds and this wine did not disappoint.
On the nose: complex and inviting, with aromas of:
Blackcurrant and blackberry, showcasing the wine’s fruit. Subtle notes of tobacco, leather and spice, adding depth.
The palate is full-bodied and velvety smooth, with flavors of: Dark fruit, including black cherry and plum, dominating the mid-palate - Subtle hints of earthy and herbal notes, adding complexity and nuance. A lingering finish with well-integrated tannins, suggesting that this can age.
The acidity is well-balanced, providing a refreshing contrast to the wine’s richness. The tannins are firm but polished, so this is a wine that will continue to evolve and improve with age.
If you’re a fan of full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignons with depth and complexity, this wine is a must-try!
I generally have GARD on my instabuy list. Sometimes the reds are a tad bit oaky for me but otherwise excellent. This time around cc bills for xmas are coming due so we need to skip this one.
This is good juice! It was available for Indiana on its last offer and I would buy again if it were available in my area this time. A cut above an every day drinker, if you are fan of complex and well-made reds you can’t go wrong here.
Last Wednesday I opened the 2017 Gard Estate Royal Slope Cabernet Sauvignon for our family Christmas celebration. I opened the bottle about an hour before people arrived. My niece’s husband poured a sample before dinner and loved it. I poured a glass for dinner and it was outstanding with the spiral sliced ham!
I’d jump on this offer, but I have three more bottles of the cab, and 4 bottles each of 2016 & 2017 Gard Grand Klasse Reserve Syrah, plus way too much wine in the basement.
I took a five ounce sample from the 2019 grand klasse, quite delicious with beautiful legs. Simply a full bodied luscious Cabernet. Silky and smooth with well hidden tannins. Just ordered the case because the estate cabernet is wonderful as well.

Everything I noted in the 2017 was very similar to what ‘lastgoodbye’ stated for the 2020. The 2017 has aged PERFECTLY with a lot of life left!
c’mon peeps, Maine is a state too and it gets dark here at 3:45. We need this!
@FOMOhoarder Seconded! No love for CT?

In for a case. Gard has been such a consistently high quality buy here on CM; wonderful stuff! Worth me using my Meh Bottled Cheer coupon code for!
Normally an autobuy for me, but I just got two cases of Gard from the last offering in October.
Yall are killing my bank account! Love Gard.
Love the 2019 Gard estate cab; anyone in CMH in for a split?
