The Harvest Moon: the moon at and about the period of fullness that is nearest to the autumnal equinox. In the legend of the Harvest moon, it is said that all full moons have their own special characteristics based primarily on the whereabouts of the ecliptic in the sky at the time of year that these moons are visible.
Harvest Moon Estate and Winery was founded on growing, producing and bottling world-class Russian River Valley wine in a balanced, elegant style. Our premise is that Russian River Valley Zinfandel can be just as layered and complex as any Pinot Noir or Bordeaux variety in the world and receive the same respect. The Pitts family has grown quality grapes in the Russian River Valley since 1976. In 2000, son Randy reverse migrated from San Francisco back to Sonoma County to assume the farming responsibilities at the family’s modest nine-acre ranch. In conjunction with lessons on farming by his Dad and a few viticulture/enology courses at the local junior college, Randy made a barrel of homemade Zinfandel off the ranch’s back block which turned out exceptionally tasty. Quickly concluding that properly farmed and judiciously fermented, Zinfandel has great capabilities of being California’s own wine nobility. The growers-turned winemakers birthed their inaugural vintage in 2002 and look forward to making their Zinprint on the wine scene for decades to come.
In addition to growing Zinfandel, Harvest Moon also hand crafts small amounts of Russian River Valley Gewürztraminer, Pinot Noir and Dry Creek Cabernet Sauvignon.

@kaolis@user48745965 I haven’t had this vintage, but prior vintages of this wine are a leaner and more cool climate Cabernet profile that I’ve enjoyed a lot in the past. I expect to enjoy this one as much. You get more vintage variation in a cooler site, so that makes it more interesting also.
what’s going on folks, the 16 cab was a lineage of a single origin hundred percent Cabernet Sauvignon. The goal of my Cabernet program was never to craft contemporary full bodied sledgehammer Cabernet rather a cab that was traditional. 12% alcohol 10% new oak 23 months in barrel. Capturing green olive Coco clove tobacco, you know flavors that are naturally found in cab. This cab is ready to go. It’s soft and juicy. For those who like Cabernet this single Vineyard cab should find its way into their cellar.
@rjquillin it’s similar to previous vintages. The 16 is more lean than 15. Tannins have resolved and it’s ready to go! Green olive, coco, floral herbal notes. Cheers!
@Harvest_Moon@rjquillin Great Job! The case arrived today and while I usually let them rest at least a day, I decided to pop one open tonight. The nose took me by suprise! I can’t get enough of it, like raspberry Jam, cherries and blackberries! Tasting it was bright purple fruits, Black currants and cherries and graphite. This one was better than even I expected. I’m glad I went with the case!

2016 Harvest Moon Cabernet Sauvignon - $55 = 29.54%
Thank you for the chance to Rat! Pop & Pour
Light Ruby, showing slight age
Green Bell pepper, baking spice, black currents, cedar
Medium body, bright cranberry like acidity
clean, medium-long finish
After an hour decant
Not much change. A little flabby on the palate now. I like that it’s vegetal forward on the nose, and the acidity but overall lacking some umph. My guess was $14-16, and at that price it’s probably better than a lot of grocery store Cabernet Sauvignon, but I’ve also bought a lot of Casemates wines at this price point that bring a lot more to the party.
Wife’s take; acidic, raisins, light body, green pepper. $15.97
Not that any of the following applies the least bit to this offer, but we’ve seen a few vintages of the Buchignani Ranch DCV offered earlier on Woot and once here on CM as well.
The Harvest Moon rose of Sangiovese offered here last year was not very good imo amateurish at best. I’ve tried to support Randy’s offers over the years but it’s a mixed bag tbh
@losthighwayz thanks for your support. These are handcrafted wines and sometimes we nail them and others we don’t. I think for the price point that’s being offered here the price evaluate ratio is good.
@losthighwayz by the way that Rosie of Sangio 2022 was my biggest by volume and total sales during the summer of 2023. Every time I open it I sell it for $38 a bottle. It was off dry, different and delicious. You can’t please everybody
@Harvest_Moon thanks for replying. I apologize if I came across too harsh. You have a point that it hits the spot if one likes off dry roses. My wife quite likes it. I prefer bone dry everything. lol

@klezman what do you like about it? Cellartracker reviews are pretty middling

@Harvest_Moon @rjquillin And that’s why I like them, Randy!
@rjquillin Do we have a third for this split? 4 fits my storage far better than 6 right now.

@klezman Not that I’m aware of, yet.

These arrived earlier this week and I had one last night. Excellent medium-bodied Cabernet. Classic.

Transit disturbances, naw, not a chance.
