Only once, when I replaced a water heater by myself years ago. With an assist from my Dad, as I called him to ask why the solder wasn’t adhering to the pipe and he told me that the pipe probably wasn’t hot enough. He was right, and I was able to successfully complete the job. Miss him dearly but so thankful for having had him in my life!

Still have the tools and solder as needed. Circuit boards to plumbing, and have a set of killer homemade jumper cables.
Have soldered, never “had” to.
