The composition of our Meritage blend changes, sometimes dramatically, from year to year. This year’s blend is dominated by Merlot, followed by Cabernet Franc. Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot make up equal parts of the final quarter of the blend.
This Meritage deserves a special meal, which may be pizza or Filet Mignon. Finish the pizza with a fair amount of Parmigiana, as this salt-dominant cheese will soften the tannin and bring the rich berry fruit up front on the palate. For the same result with our higher-end pairing suggestion, top the Filet Mignon with blue cheese.

Judd’s Hill is owned and operated by two generations of the Finkelstein family. Bunnie, Judd and Holly Finkelstein are vintners dedicated to producing ultra-premium, handcrafted wines. Our family has been making wine in Napa Valley since the 1970’s and continues to produce signature wines that are fruit-driven, concentrated and just simply delicious. Taking an intimate and personal approach to our winemaking, we limit our annual production to less than 3,000 cases.
In 2006 construction was completed on our new winery located at the southern end of the Silverado Trail. We designed it to be as green as possible, minimizing our impact on the land. The use of environmentally efficient drainage, solar lighting and an aggressive recycling and composting program are a few ways that our winery uses smart design to make a difference. As a result, Judd’s Hill has been certified as one of the first Napa Valley Green Wineries by the Napa Valley Vintners.
Our new facility is considerably larger than our original Howell Mountain winery and gives us more room to serve our Custom MicroCrush clients. It also houses our new tasting room that is tucked amidst the beautiful vines of Napa Valley and welcomes visitors daily by advance appointment.

2013 Judd’s Hill Napa Valley Meritage - $40 = 13.33%
@rjquillin We aren’t labrats but did get to taste during the launch party. Didn’t take notes but remember thinking this one was still tight but structured. Fans of Judd’s Hill so we are in in this one.
@rjquillin Heh heh, mayhaps acquired while on holiday. Along with a Hawley PS. We’d pop the Judd’s Hill for science but are both fighting colds at the moment.
@KNmeh7 Thanks for the great question. I never really thought about it, but I can see how the blending percentages are conspicuous. In short, we started with Merlot as a base, because we love it. Then we put in a healthy dollop of CF to add some angularity and a bit more structure. The PV and Cab Sauv were added in equal parts as spice components, and the blend just WORKED! For a 2013 BDX blend, it drinks very soft right now and is a wonderful food wine! Get some!
I had their “Magic” wine at the Magic Castle in Hollywood with some friends (we had the pass where you have to get a dinner there). We enjoyed it. A friend bought a case from the winery, which was something like $15/bottle, and he was in Napa to save on shipping.
I don’t think I can pass on this one.
@ecue Thanks for the endorsement, and the support! It’s great that you had the opportunity to taste our Magic Blend at the Magic Castle. It has been poured BTG there on-and-off for years, and is a wonderful value wine. This deal on our 2013 Meritage brings it into “value wine” territory as well, so you are wise to pick some up!
@browncj7 Thanks for your past support of our offers. If you do have bottles of our 2009 Pinot in your cellar, I’d encourage you to drink them up and make some room for this 2013 Meritage. It’s a wonderful wine from one of our best vintages ever.
A little backstory… In 2013 our current winemaker, Eric Lyman, was the assistant winemaker under Kenn Vigoda (formerly of Raymond Vineyards). During this vintage Eric was given more opportunities during crush and in the cellar to leave his mark on our wines. In large part through his efforts, our 2013 Bordeaux blend wines received ratings as high as 94+ points from WA. Our 2013 Meritage is Merlot-driven, and is on the softer side of our Bordeaux blends. It really is a lovely wine. If you are a fan of balanced and nuanced wines with ample fruit and moderate tannins, this is a wine for you!

@MarkDaSpark Wait. What? This isn’t a pet!
You did get a case to share I assume…
@rjquillin
Nope, thus my sorry to yugrudfooz above.
And it appears we should expect a rat from @Javadrinker as well.
@rjquillin We aren’t labrats but did get to taste during the launch party. Didn’t take notes but remember thinking this one was still tight but structured. Fans of Judd’s Hill so we are in in this one.
@javadrinker CT suggests you have a bottle.
Shagged it from the party?
As did I with the Bell. Which I’ll note shipped today.
W00t!, err, meh.
@rjquillin Heh heh, mayhaps acquired while on holiday. Along with a Hawley PS. We’d pop the Judd’s Hill for science but are both fighting colds at the moment.
@javadrinker That’ll teach you to live in SoCal. Here in Buffalo, we don’t get colds.
This site is killing me… but I look so fancy with all this wine. I’ll sleep and then eventually grab 3.
@TechnoViking Yeaaaa… more Napa wines… Dangit.
Can the winery chime in on why such formulaic blend of percentages were used? Was there no art in the blending? Are the figures just estimates?

I’ve had the Pinot Nior that was offered a couple times on the site we all use to frequent.
I think I have 1 or 2 of the 2009 vintage in cellar.
Pretty solid wine IIRC.

This wine was featured at the Casemates Launch Party! Did anyone have a chance to try it?
@arianaWCC I did. It was very nice.
/giphy rushing-honored-tortilla

@arianaWCC @nostrom0 seconded.
@arianaWCC
I wanted to, but sadly, missed trying it.
DFW… I sure don’t need to but… I’ve missed on the other Napa wines with as great discount. Wife’s favorite win is Merlot… So… Case or 3 pack…
It’s a 2013 (great vintage!) with plenty of life ahead of it. Get a case and enjoy it for a while!
@JuddsHillWinery fine
