Juicy and intense, our 2021 Kukeri Petaluma Gap Pinot Noir is silky in texture and complex in flavors, with dark berries and wildflowers, fusing perfectly with an exotic undertone of sweet herbs and toasty vanilla oak. In the glass, dark red hues, darker to the edge, medium weight on the palate with balanced silky mouthfeel and bright refreshing acidity. Long persistent finish.
Introduction
The 2021 Kukeri Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir is coming from Lakeville vineyard, located on the Lakeville Highway in the heart of the Petaluma Gap, carved by winds, with over 500 feet of elevation, which creates a unique micro-climate. The wine is crafted 100% from the famed Martini clone of Pinot Noir, which creates a wine with a soft and elegant backbone, intense dark fruit, and energetic acidity.
Winemaking
The grapes were handpicked in the middle of October, sorted and de-stemmed into small fermentation bins, and allowed to cold soak for 3 days to help stabilize the colour and enhance flavours. It was fermented with ‘prise de mousse’ yeast for 15 days and punched down 3 times a day to increase extraction of colour and phenolic compounds. Gently pressed and aged for 16 months into 100% French oak barrels with 30% new oak to preserve the delicate notes and mouthfeel. Only 5 barrels produced

Introduction
The fruit for our 2022 Daria Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir is sourced from the Lakeville vineyard, located off the Lakeville Highway, carved by winds, with over 500 feet elevation, and the Vina Del Sol vineyard located on Adobe Road. This location, right by the San Pablo Bay means that cooling breezes are always tempering the warm California sun; and the fog guards the vineyards from the most powerful rays for much of the growing season, which creates a unique microclimate and great wines. The Pinot Noir is crafted from the famed Dijon clones 667, 777, and the Martini clone, which creates a wine with a dense and elegant backbone, vivid fruit and wildflowers aromatics.
Winemaking
The grapes were handpicked at the middle of September, sorted and de-stemmed into small fermentation bins, and allowed to cold soak for 2 days to help stabilize the color and enhance flavors. Gently pressed and aged for 13 months into 100% French oak barrels with 30% new oak to preserve the delicate notes and mouthfeel. Only 3 barrels produced.
Petar Kirilov, founder and winemaker of Kukeri Wines, grew up in Bulgaria and graduated from the prestigious University of Food Technologies with a master’s degree in winemaking. He has worked at Truchard Vineyards, Meadowcroft Wines, and Foyt Wines as a winemaker, and created Kukeri Wines to focus on the production of small-lot quality wines from single vineyards.
Kukeri Wines source grapes from some of the most unusual vineyards in Napa Valley and Sonoma County. “We treat that fruit as gently as possible, producing small lots of quality wines that display the complexity, power, finesse, and specific terroir of Cabernet Sauvignon grown in Mount Veeder, and Pinot Noir from Petaluma Gap, Los Carneros, and Russian River Valley.”
Kukeri refers to a pagan Bulgarian ritual that may date back as far as 8,000 years to the ancient Thracians – and to Dionysus, the god associated with wine, fertility, and rebirth. The festival is replete with mystical symbolism, steeped as it is in a tradition representing the cycle of life, death, and rebirth.

Hello Casemates! We only got the package a day ago so we only got a chance to try the '22 Daria Pinot. Upon first sip, notes are very subtle but presents smooth and silky, accompanied by an alcohol forward taste as it sits. On the tounge, dark fruit, sweet cherry, and light floral aromas are pronounced.
Delicate acidity but not dry which is pleasant. Showcases translucent ruby red hues on appearance with low tannins. It is said to be aged in oak barrel but little to no oak tones noted, an easy wine to enjoy with any meal, especially earthy meats and vegetables.
88 points. A saturated ruby color, the 2021 Pinot Noir Lakeville Vineyard is floral and ripe with wild berries, crushed flowers, and sweet herbs. On the palate, this medium-bodied red is ripe with dark earth and red plum and has ripe tannins and a clean finish. It’s a straightforward wine to enjoy over the next couple years. Wow, it’s a busy few weeks before Christmas and the Casemates wine deliveries are lined up! In the midst of Pedroncelli, Peterson, Scott Harvey, Cheer, etc., shipping notices I saw a next day air UPS slipped in there and knew we had some labrat bottles on the way. I nice email from Alice confirmed my suspicions.
Wine arrived Wednesday evening, offer is up today, so we had to drink it quickly. As always, tasted (drank!) these with my beautiful wife, and we were pretty much in agreement.
I should also say that I have a pretty good head cold, which is compromising my sense of smell and adding a new level of challenge to ‘The Trumpet Shall Sound.’
Herbs and sappy red berry fruit, long finish, fine tannins. Smooth viscous mouthfeel- good wine with food, has some structure, held up to mushroom risotto and wagyu strip leftovers. Savory backbone as it opens up.
Quality wine, reminds me of other well made Sonoma Coast Pinots.
2022 Daria Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
Similar color in the glass.
More red fruit on the nose,
much fruitier
Strawberry on the palate, lighter, sappy and snappy. Some herbs. Black licorice!! Long, long finish, interesting and thoughtful. Shannon liked this one better with more fruit. Drank this one with a charcuterie board with assorted cheeses and some Journeyman salumi and it was a good match. I don’t think this one would hold up as well to the steak from the other night, it has less structure.
These are both quality wines and at the case price you probably won’t find any Pinot under $20 that will compare. I’d be in for this but WineDavid has already made many withdrawals to our bank account sine Thanksgiving!!
Thanks for the chance to rat and Happy Holidays!!!
